LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Martha Reeves, a legendary Motown singer, will have to fight hard to earn her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The 81-year-old 'Nowhere to Run' singer will have to raise $55K to secure her huge career milestone, as the renowned awards don't come cheap.

The cost of the expensive honor, which is often covered by the star's record company or a major Hollywood studio, was not something Reeves could afford to pay for herself, according to Detroit Free Press. The frontwoman of 'Martha and the Vandellas' was chosen to receive a star in 2021, but it is claimed that her former manager failed to secure the funding and ultimately "wasted a year of fundraising." The singer of 'I'm Ready For Love' is now asking her supporters to donate to the cause in an effort to make up for lost time.

'It doesn't take much to make a huge impact'

Chris Roe, Martha's current manager, stated, "Martha's former representation got in over their heads on this. They didn't realize how hard it would be and wasted a year of fundraising time. Now we're down to the wire," according to Detroit Free Press. Roe has launched a significant fundraising effort, working with businesses and private donors to help Reeves succeed before June.

Some celebrities have record labels or movie production studios supporting them to cover the costs, while others occasionally use crowdfund, according to the Detroit Free Press. The seasoned talent agent urged the public to donate, saying, "It doesn't take much to make a huge impact. Doing without three or four Starbucks coffees for a week is a pretty nice contribution. A donation of $25 goes a long way."

'She's definitely deserving'

Many people have reacted to Reeves requesting donations on Twitter with one person writing, "She's definitely deserving. I hope someone steps up with the cash." Another person wrote, "She's a legend, she deserves it..."

A third person wrote, "I guess I'm one of the last to know that you actually have to pay for your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I had no idea..." Another curious person wrote, "Didn't she get enough kickbacks when she was on Detroit's city council?" This other person wrote, "Paying thousands for something people are just gonna trample on."

Reeves started out as a struggling bar singer before landing a job as a secretary at Motown. It didn't take her long to be lured away from reception and into the recording booth, where she quickly established herself as one of the major figures of the 1960s soul.
