Lizzo and Live Nation pledge a WHOPPING $1M to Planned Parenthood after Roe v Wade overturn
Melissa Viviane Jefferson, who goes by the name Lizzo, and Live Nation recently pledged $1 million to Planned Parenthood and Abortion Funds. The American singer and songwriter said on social media that she’ll donate $500K of her upcoming 'Special Tour' money to Planned Parenthood.
Live Nation, the tour’s promoter, announced that it will match Lizzo's 500K in donations, making it a $1 million total donation. The donation by Live Nation is its second one in two months. In May, it teamed with Harry Styles to lobby for gun violence prevention.

Some fans encouraged her to donate the funds to other abortion rights organizations than Planned Parenthood as they felt like it is already funded. One fan tweeted, "Do not donate to planned parenthood right now!!! they are incredibly well funded by regular donors, PLEASE DONATE TO ABORTION FUNDS!!!!!! especially in states with trigger laws (the south/midwest)." Another gave in a list of abortion funds in about 50 states.

Lizzo is taking action after nearly 50 years of women's reproductive rights were snatched away on Friday, June 24, 2022, when the United States Supreme Court ruled to overturn the Roe v Wade, the 1973 case ruling that protected women’s federal right to get an abortion. As a result of the ruling, an expected 23 states will make abortion illegal nearly immediately.
Anger and joy erupted outside the Supreme Court as abortion rights supporters and abortion rights opponents gathered after the decision. President Joe Biden called it a "sad day" for the US and said it would be up to voters in November to select candidates who would protect a host of rights — not just abortion but marriage equality and the right to contraception.
