San Diego rapper Martell Dean, 37, was identified by California Highway Patrol (CHP) to be the victim of a shooting that occurred four days ago on Saturday. Dean was in the driver's seat as per reports along with "unidentified passengers" driving south on I-805 near Imperial Avenue around 2:20 a.m. In addition to Dean, another man in the car was also shot, as per The San Diego Tribune.

A video acquired by OnSceneTV sees medical professionals trying to "revive" the rapper while on the side of the road. Another passenger in the car, a woman, is seen being comforted by officers. As per OnSceneTv, she was the one that called 911 saying that her boyfriend was shot in his chest. The other shooting victim, the man, is seen in the video with a cloth on his wound. As per what CHP revealed to ABC 10 News, he is being treated for "non-life-threatening injuries." The Tribune further reported that Dean had died at the hospital. As per CHP Officer Mary Bailey, a suspect has been "identified and the investigation is ongoing."

OnSceneTv posted the video revealing more about the incident in its description, "A woman called 911 telling the dispatchers that people were shooting at the car she was in and her boyfriend had been shot in the chest. SDPD officers found the car parked on the right shoulder of the Southbound I-805 just north of Imperial Ave, and discovered 2 males and 1 female in the car. Both males had been shot. The driver was shot in the chest and officers immediately started CPR, which firefighters took over when they arrived. The male was in CPR status as the ambulance took him to Mercy Hospital. The 2nd male was shot at least once in the arm. The female was not injured. The officers shut down the freeway to investigate the scene. The Dodge Charger had several bullet holes on the drivers’ side."



 


Who was Martell Dean?

Dean was a local rap artist who was also known as OG YD. He was known for his hit YouTube track 'Came From Nothin' which garnered around 7,000 views. Some of his fans took to the video posting platform to offer their condolences under the rapper's videos. He was just starting out in the rap industry and is also known for his other tracks such as, 'Kings Flow Part 1', 'Eye See Your Dreams', '522', and 'Wavy.'

Dean's death comes a few months after BadAzz Music Syndicate artist Mo3 was also shot down on a Dallas freeway and only weeks after Houston rapper Chucky Trill was shot to death on Interstate 8. CyHi The Prynce also experienced a near-death experience as he was targeted in Atlanta on an interstate just last month.
