'Love (Ft Marriage and Divorce)': Was Sung Hoon an Olympian? A look at his sporting life before acting career
Sung Hoon, the award-winning South Korean actor will be back on the television screen with a brand new Netflix’s TV show 'Love (Ft Marriage and Divorce)' aka ‘Marriage Lyrics For Divorce Music’ in a role of a married judge navigating through a turbulent time.
Was Sung Hoon an Olympian?
Sung Hoon, born as Bang In-kyu, shot to fame with his acting career debut in 2009 with White Brown's ‘Because I Love You’. But what many don’t know is that Sung Hoon, prior to having a successful acting career was also a swimming champion who swam for 14 years before quitting due to a spinal injury that required more than ten surgeries. The 37-year-old actor shared in an interview that he was also a part of the national swim team and specialized in butterfly stroke.
Sung Hoon, who was a contemporary to the Olympic Gold medalist South Korean Swimmer Park Tae-hwan, candidly said, “Crucially, Park Tae-hwan appeared and I decided to quit.” After the ‘Passionate Love’ star decided to quit swimming, he went on to become a swimming trainer prior to debut as an actor.

Sung Hoon’s breakthrough in acting came with his SBS’ supernatural romance drama, ‘New Tales of Gisaeng’ which got him his first SBS Acting award as the Best New Actor in 2011. Along with acting in more than 17 television series including ‘Passionate Love’, ‘The Birth of a family’, ‘Oh My Venus’, ‘My Secret Romance’, ‘Level Up’, ‘Jugglers’, ‘My Secret Star’ and the latest being ‘Marriage Lyrics for Divorce Composition’, Sung Hoon has also starred in a number of movies like ‘Brothers in Heaven’ and ‘Are You In Love’; Plus the ‘Sound of Heart’ star has also appeared in a series of popular music videos including ‘Dream’, ‘Promise Me’, ‘Just the Two Of Us, ‘Sunlight’, ‘Climax’ and more. To top it all off, Sung Hoon has snagged over 14 trophies for his acting roles across the platforms.
