Are Marilyn Manson sexual abuse allegations false? Internet says his BFF Johnny Depp was 'falsely accused' too

Marilyn Manson shared an image with his 3.6M followers on Instagram to speak out against the allegations made by Evan Rachel Wood and other women

Hours after Marilyn Manson's former girlfriend Evan Rachel Wood accused the veteran rocker of abuse, the singer called the allegations "horrible distortions of reality".

The 52-year-old singer-songwriter was all over the news on February 1 after 'Kajillionaire' star Wood accused him of abuse on her official Instagram account. She vouched to tell the world his true story and about the years of abuse she had to go through at his hands. However, Manson did not waste much time as he also took to social media to react to the allegations..

The ‘Portrait of an American Family’ hitmaker took to his official Instagram account to speak out. Sharing a text image with his 3.6M followers on the photo-sharing app, Manson posted, “Obviously, my art and life have long been magnets for controversy, but these recent claims about me are horrible distortions of reality. My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners. Regardless of how – and why – others are now choosing to misrepresent the past, that is the truth.”

Social media users rushed to Twitter to express their opinion on the matter. A few users also dragged the much-hyped and controversial couple, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, on the micro-blogging site. Manson and Depp are known for being best friends. They share the same back tattoos of Charles Baudelaire's poetry anthology cover. Manson and Depp also watch movies together and have made music videos together for the former’s record ‘Heaven Upside Down'.

One user shared, “the marilyn manson thing isn’t “cancel culture” it’s literally been an open secret for decades. i learned about him whisper network style in 2013 and when evan rachel wood testified in court to create a bill for DV survivors in 2018 but didn’t name namrd — that was about him.” One said, “The only real consequence these dudes like Marilyn Manson face is that a bunch of their friends jump ship because they can claim ignorance and start over. Obviously that dude wasn't touring in a Corolla for 10 months a year, but there's no way folks working with him didn't know.”

Another posted, “I'm amazed at how many Marilyn Manson fans are shocked that the man they idolized is a piece of shit. Yall need to catch up, this has been going on for years, who knows maybe his ENTIRE career. Idk how long tbh but I wouldn't be surprised.” One added, “If I see you fucking freaks bringing Johnny Depp into this Marilyn Manson thing I can and will injure you.” Another expressed, “Evan Rachel Wood speaks out against Marilyn Manson...he's cancelled. Johnny Depp speaks out about Amber Heard...still in Aquaman 2 and not cut out of The Stand.” One user said, “i really don’t wanna here how johnny depp isn’t abusive when his social circle is marilyn manson and twiggy ramirez. you f*gs are DELUSIONAL. predators stick together.” One added, “While everyone eats up the allegations against Marilyn Manson, remember, Johnny Depp was falsely accused and went through hell based on fabrication. Now, y’all are in Depp’s corner. The whole “brainwashed” and “manipulated” comments seem like she’s running from her bad choices.”

What is the entire controversy about? 

In an Instagram post, Wood accused ex-boyfriend Manson of abuse and claimed that he groomed her since her teenage years. “The name of my abuser is Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson. He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years. I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission. I am done living in fear of retaliation, slander, or blackmail. I am here to expose this dangerous man and call out the many industries that have enabled him, before he ruins any more lives. I stand with the many victims who will no longer be silent.”

According to Rolling Stone magazine, four other women also made allegations against Manson. They detailed harrowing experiences which included sexual assault, psychological abuse, and various forms of coercion, violence and intimidation. 

Manson and Wood began their relationship in 2007 and got engaged in January 2010. Seven months later, the two called off their engagement. Wood met Manson when she was 18 and he was 36. The 'Westworld' actress had detailed her ordeal in 2018 when she testified before a House Judiciary Subcommittee as part of an effort to get the Sexual Assault Survivors Bill of Rights passed in all 50 states. "My experience with domestic violence was this: Toxic mental, physical and sexual abuse which started slow but escalated over time, including threats against my life, severe gaslighting and brainwashing, waking up to the man that claimed to love me raping what he believed to be my unconscious body," she had said. At the time, she had not revealed the identity of her abuser.
