Mariah Carey was all over the news during the release of her 2020 memoir ‘The Meaning of Mariah Carey’, and the legendary crooner is making headlines again, only this time for all the wrong reasons. The renowned singer-songwriter has been sued by her elder sister Alison Carey for a whopping $1.25M.
Mariah’s sister, who is 59 years old, has alleged that the award-winning songstress has intentionally inflicted “emotional distress” on her by including several stories in the star's tell-all memoir. Speaking about her memoir, Mariah had earlier written on her website, “This book is composed of my memories, my mishaps, my struggles, my survival and my songs. Unfiltered. I went deep into my childhood and gave the scared little girl inside of me a big voice. I let the abandoned and ambitious adolescent have her say, and the betrayed and triumphant woman I became tell her side.”

Citing a chapter from the singer’s book, where she had described an incident when Alison gave her Valium, tried to “pimp her out and threw a cup of boiling hot tea on her,” Alison’s summons states Mariah “presented no evidence to substantiate” the story.

But instead of saying no more about her, [Carey] used her book to humiliate and embarrass plaintiff as stories about the memoir appeared in newspapers around the world, on TV and across the Internet, most of them with headlines repeating defendant's allegations — all of them published without giving [Alison] any opportunity to respond.”
