Mugler's face, especially his nose, suffered a lot during his lifetime. From accidents at the gym to some on the road, his face was completely deformed until he decided to do something about it. Mugler's face always looked different after his gym accident in 2017. In an interview, Mugler said, "I haven’t had any implants contrary to what you’re suggesting, but I have undergone facial reconstruction following a serious accident at the gym that completely smashed my face. If that hadn’t happened I would never have done anything with my face.”
In an interview with Tippi Hedren, when he was asked about his accidents, recovery, and the decision of 'fixing' his face, Mugler said, "I said, 'Let’s find a way to make this fun!' I asked another surgeon if he could do some things to my chin, and then I was happy to get the bloody anesthesia. He actually took a piece of bone from my hip and put it on my chin, so I don’t have any plastic or silicone. It’s all bones. I wanted my face to represent progress, because after years of being a thin, charming dancer, I wanted to be a warrior. I’ve done so much in my life. I’ve fought so much. I’m a superhero, so it’s normal to have the face of one."
