Veteran actress Betty White tragically died on New Year's Eve 2021, barely days ahead of her 100th birthday. The legendary comedienne and beloved Hollywood star reportedly passed away at her home before 9:30 am ET on Friday, December 31, 2021. She was gearing up to celebrate being a centenarian on January 17, 2022, and had even tweeted about the same, which, unfortunately, turned out to be her last tweet.
"My 100th birthday… I cannot believe it is coming up, and People Magazine is celebrating with me! The new issue of @People is available on newsstands nationwide tomorrow," White tweeted on December 28, 2021. Her tragic demise was mourned across the world by the whos who of Hollywood as well as her legion of devoted fans of all ages. From US President Joe Biden to actor Ryan Reynolds, who recently joked about having a crush on Betty White, social media was flooded with heartfelt tributes for the iconic star.

White, whose career in acting spanned more than 80 years and even made it to the Guinness World Records, reportedly died of natural age-related causes. Sources close to the actress revealed that she was not battling any particular ailments or illnesses at the time of her death.
President Joe Biden was one of the first to mourn the veteran star's sudden demise. "Betty White brought a smile to the lips of generations of Americans. She’s a cultural icon who will be sorely missed. Jill and I are thinking of her family and all those who loved her this New Year’s Eve," Biden tweeted.
The US Army's official Twitter page remembered White as not only an iconic actress but also an active member of the American Women's Voluntary Services who served during WWII. "We are saddened by the passing of Betty White. Not only was she an amazing actress, she also served during WWII as a member of the American Women's Voluntary Services. A true legend on and off the screen," they tweeted.
Star Trek actor George Takei noted, "Our national treasure, Betty White, has passed just before her 100th birthday.
