'MAFS' Season 17 fans call out Austin Reed as he accuses Becca Haley of sabotaging his image
DENVER, COLORADO: 'Married At First Sight' Season 17 star Austin Reed recently accused Becca Haley of sabotaging his on-screen image. However, the accusation backfired and the viewers slammed Austin over his fake portrayal. In the latest episode, Austin and Becca had an argument over his on-camera image.
He told his wife, "I care about how you’re feeling, but, like, I think it’s unfair to characterize me as this terrible person." Becca debunked the accusation of trying to make Austin seem like a 'terrible person' and claimed, "I talk about what a great person you are." Austin retaliated and said, "It's, like, I have an opinion and when I express it and it’s not the same as yours, it’s automatically considered combative."
He continued, "Like, am I being combative right now? The words you use to describe me aren’t for sure any that I’ve been described as. I’ve never been called these things." Becca further claimed that he was not being combative but said she didn’t know how else to classify his actions. Austin noted, "Those words matter. That's what millions of people are going to see about me."
However, Becca noted that Austin was more hurt by the 'optics' than the actual meaning of her comments. Austin claimed that he did care for Becca but questioned, "Have I said anything to make you look bad in any way? Ever on camera? You are making me look bad, though." However, fans called Austin out for worrying about his image.
A social media user tweeted, 'If Austin didn't want to look bad on national television, why the fuck would you go on... national television. Where do they find these men, the dumpster?" Another person added, "These men in Denver are awful. They’re worried more about their portrayal of being the good guy and just showing how much of the bad guy they really are."
Another critic noted, "I've never thought for once that Becca voicing her concerns has painted Austin in a bad light. What has painted Austin in a bad light for me is him becoming defensive and failing to listen because he thinks he's being painted in a bad light." Another X user said, "BECCA, HE DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU! Austin ONLY cares about the optics. THAT'S IT!"
Another viewer penned, "I got an idea since Austin & Brennan don’t like to look bad on camera why don’t they STOP being d$cks ON camera..." Another internet user suggested, "Imagine trying to not make yourself look bad on tv and you come out on top as one of the most hated men out of all the seasons." Another internet user stated, "These men on this show care way more about optics than making a marriage work. Cancel the show."

Austin claimed, "I think in the past you've told me that like ex-boyfriends are like kind of like pushovers and like after what you said it kinda makes me feel like you want me to just not think for myself all the time."
Becca debunked Austin's claim and confronted him. She said, "No I think you think for yourself 100% of the time, I'm asking for you to think of us for a small percentage of that time. okay."
