This article contains spoilers for season 6, episode 9: 'Carpe Diem'.

As CBS' political drama 'Madam Secretary' aired the winter finale or mid-season finale of the ongoing final season 6, fans gathered in unison on social media to gush about how brilliant and perfect a send-off was this fall finale before the show goes on hiatus for the festive season.

According to the official synopsis, the finale - episode 9 of season 6 saw “Elizabeth face a national security crisis when a military conflict in international waters spirals to the brink of nuclear confrontation. Also, with the imminent threat of impeachment looming over the McCord administration, Elizabeth and Henry make a wish-list of things to do while she’s still in office.” But neither a national security crisis nor the prospect of impeachment could dampen our newly elected madam president Elizabeth McCord (Téa Leoni) from being an absolute legend as the first female president on the show.

The episode titled 'Carpe Diem' gave one wholesome moment when Elizabeth is being cheered by little girls all over as they all shout out for her, calling her "My President." Picking up on that, fans took to Twitter to exclaim with sheer glee how iconic and relatable the moment was, and how they are already missing the show as it is about to take its imminent break. "She’s my president!! I love Elizabeth McCord so much & I wish she really was the president! #Women #MadamSecretary #MadamPresident," tweeted a fan.

Noting how nailbiting the entire ordeal in the mid-season finale got for viewers while Elizabeth/Liz/Bess went through the utmost, another fan shared: "Poor Bess. She honestly couldn’t believe how much support she had. America is proud of Elizabeth McCord and she is stunned. After 2 months of being told what crap she was she believed they wanted her gone. Her hands literally pushing against the glass."

Other fans drew a parallel between the show's developments and the current political scenario of the United States, as one of them shared: "Did anyone else notice - "Madam Secretary" started out as #libTard propaganda, but now they are MAKING AN EXACT COPY of the current Political Situation In this week's episode, an impeachment failed, and the @POTUS had millions of supporters show up for support!" The critics drawing parallels were mostly in favor of the show's current arc though, as another one pointed out: "Really like @MadamSecretary! I’m a @Pres_Bartlet guy but could very easily go for Elizabeth McCord. Integrity. Character. Uber-smart. Why can’t our reality be somewhere close to fictional television presidents?"

'Madam Secretary' season 6 winter finale aired on Sunday, December 1, at 10pm only on CBS.
