Giving Tuesday was launched in the year 2012 hoping for a  loving start to the Christmas season encouraging the world to participate in the spirit of giving during the holidays. Gaining the attention of many, it has become a beacon of hope.

Luke Bryan, an American country music singer, and songwriter launched a Giving Tuesday campaign and asked his vast social media following to donate to a heart-warming cause. This was done to honor The Brett Boyer foundation and his late niece, Sadie Brett Boyer, who lost her life as an infant in February 2017 to Congenital Heart Disease (CHD). The foundation focuses on the devastating illness by raising funds and awareness to aid with treatment options.

His dedication to the cause comes from personal heartbreak as The Brett Boyer foundation was created in the memory of his and his wife Caroline's niece. Caroline's brother, Bo Boyer, and his wife, Ellen lost their daughter Sadie Brett at a very tender age of seven months as she was born with Down Syndrome and suffered from CHD. The foundation seeks to help fund research to further and advance treatment options while raising awareness for Down Syndrome and CHD.

On December 3, 2019, Bryan took to his facebook to talk about how CHD death rates have decreased in the last decade, to more than 30 percent stating "But we want to do better, we can do better.  Our hopes are not just for children with congenital heart disease to live and survive, we want them to thrive and live long and healthy lives." He urged his followers to donate to the Brett Boyer Foundation, and his fundraiser raised $1,618 of its $5,000 goal within hours of him posting the facebook video.
