'Love Island' star Mike Thalassitis aka Muggy Mike found dead in woods aged 26

‘Love Island’ star Mike Thalassitis, best known by his nickname Muggy Mike, was found dead in the woods near his Essex home Friday, March 15. The 26-year-old was a former League Two footballer who found fame on the ITV2 dating show earned the reputation of a being a reality show villain owing to his behavior.
After the death of Sophie Gradon, who starred on the 2016 season, last year, Thalassitis’ death comes as a huge tragedy for fans of ‘Love Island,' leading many to believe that a system needs to be put in place where compulsory mental health support is put in place. These celerbrities need to be equipped to deal with online abuse and trolls, which is something most reality stars have to face on a daily basis.
If Mike Thalassitis did commit suicide then there needs to be support offered for the reality tv stars. Second cast member of Love Island this has happened to and how many others have spoken on it, I’m so upset wtf— Landon Kirby warrior (@selflessposie) March 16, 2019
100% agree, do they offer counselling when coming out of these shows like love island? Do they offer counselling on how to deal with online abuse and hate? More needs to be done! X— Deb Deb (@_DebDeb_) March 16, 2019
Born in Edmonton, Thalassitis has played for many teams, and is currently signed to Welling United. When he entered the dating reality show ‘Love Island,’ he had vowed to not be a villain, but lady luck had other plans for him.
He earned the nickname ‘Muggy Mike’ from fellow islander Chris Hughes after he stole Olivia Atwood’s heart. Even though he was scheduled to appear on ‘Celebs Go Dating’ along with Hughes and Gemma Collins, and Sam Thompson, rumor mills had suggested that he was secretly dating ‘Ex On The Beach’ star Megan McKenna. Their allegedly rocky relationship, however, ended earlier this year.
Hughes has been one of the first people to express him condolences after Thalassitis’ passing. He wrote on Twitter, "Every inch of my heart goes out to his family & friends. A good guy, taken far, far too soon." Another Islander, Tyla Rossie Carr posted, “I can't believe the call I've just had. Mike, you were love by all the Love island family. You'll be missed so much. All my love goes out to your friends and family. Shocked.”
Many other friends and fans have taken to social media to express their heartbreak over the news:

Devastated to hear of the passing of Mike Thalassitis. He was a good man and this is an atrocious waste of a young life. I spoke to Mike (who loved that I would still call him Muggy) on Thursday.
