Contains spoilers for 'Lost in Space' Season 3

'Lost in Space' Season 3 does just what its predecessors did: Enthrall. And it does a notch better in what happens to be a fitting end to Netflix's sci-fi drama that comprised of all elements that made it a stellar show. Since the cliffhanger ending of Season 2, it has been a two-year wait to know the aftermath of the robots' attack on the resolute after Jupiter made a hair-raising escape. The latest season comes with some sense of maturity, especially from the actors who've aged and deliver a performance that's just bettered their last two outings.

The Robinsons don't unite until the first few episodes and there are quite a few theories that are conjured up over the course of the season that explains the impact a human body has after being exposed to the environment the characters are in. There are also speculations about how the robots have scanned, but not murdered Don, who's also been to Alpha Centauri.

There are some cliffhangers at the end of most episodes just to keep the intrigue factor going. Will is stabbed through the heart by SAR but is later given an artificial heart. The teen also figures out what the robots' endgame is. They are searching for the alien engine that they intend to use as a a bomb. And at the other end, Maureen and John realize that the planet has no defenses to fight back against the army of robots and the one there is can only be activated by the dead Ben Adler.

Will's health, in the meantime, continues to deteriorate and Robot repairs it at the cost of destroying himself. When the teen encounters SAR, the robots make a play and stab him in the chest again only for him to transfer Robot's data. It kills SAR and revives Robot. This season, there is ample emphasis on the tone as the series progresses makes it a compelling watch. The show leans back heavily on the basics that made it successful in the first place.

The ensemble cast of Toby Stephens, Molly Parker, and Mina Sundwall share substantial screentime and make every second of their presence count while Will Robinson (Maxwell Jenkins) steals the show with a solid, hard-hitting performance. In all, the season lives up to the massive expectations that it generated when it released the trailer. There are phases when the pace dips, and some storylines could have been done away with. But that's made up by the character evolution. Robot, in particular, just proves he's as pivotal to the show as Will.

It's a fitting end to one of Netflix's fan-favorite shows, and rest assured that this sci-fi drama is a welcome Christmas present from the streamer that impressed by the season.

'Lost in Space' is currently streaming on Netflix.
