Loren Merchan: Daughter of judge presiding over Donald Trump's hush money case worked for Biden and Harris campaigns
MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: The daughter of Judge Juan Merchan, who is presiding over the Donald Trump hush money scandal, has worked for a slew of high-profile Democratic campaigns including that of Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden. 34-year-old Loren Merchan's contribution toward several progressive campaigns has led to increasing speculation of political bias surrounding the former president's indictment who himself ranted on social media claiming the judge is from a "family of well known Trump haters."
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's investigation filed a sealed indictment on Thursday, March 30, 2023, against Trump over his alleged role in paying hush money to adult star Stormy Daniels in 2016. His former personal attorney Michael Cohen paid Daniels $130,000 in exchange for her silence over their alleged dalliance in 2006. However, Trump, who was married at the time to former first lady Melania Trump, denied the allegations of sleeping with Daniels and said that he had no knowledge of the payment. Even though Cohen paid Daniels personally, he was reimbursed by the Trump Organization under the guise of legal expenses, prompting federal prosecutors to charge the payment from a potential misdemeanor to a felony charge for alleged violations of fraud-related campaign finance laws.

Who is Loren Merchan?

Merchan's firm, Authentic Campaigns, whose she is now Partner, president, and COO, previously worked on Harris and then-candidate Joe Biden's campaign. However, after the now-vice president ended her unsuccessful campaign for president and joined Biden's ticket she concluded her work with the campaign to move to fill the same role at Authentic Campaigns progressive digital strategies firm.
'KANGAROO COURT!!!'
Despite Trump's indictment, he continues to surge in polls and has raised $8 million for his 2024 presidential campaign in the four days following the indictment. Moments before his arrival at the courthouse, Trump's campaign sent a fundraising email labeled, "My last email before my arrest." "Our movement has overcome so much," the email noted. "And there is no doubt in my mind that we will prevail once again and WIN the White House in 2024." In addition to Trump's campaign email the ex-president himself posted on Truth Social berating the Manhattan court as a "Kangaroo Court" and voiced to move the trial to a more Republican-friendly Staten Island.
Trump's post on Tuesday morning read, "VERY UNFAIR VENUE, WITH SOME AREAS THAT VOTED 1% REPUBLICAN. THIS CASE SHOULD BE MOVED TO NEARBY STATEN ISLAND - WOULD BE A VERY FAIR AND SECURE LOCATION FOR THE TRIAL," reported Daily Mail. "ADDITIONALLY, THE HIGHLY PARTISAN JUDGE & HIS FAMILY ARE WELL KNOWN TRUMP HATERS," the ex-president added. "HE WAS AN UNFAIR DISASTER ON A PREVIOUS TRUMP RELATED CASE, WOULDN'T RECUSE, GAVE HORRIBLE JURY INSTRUCTIONS, & IMPOSSIBLE TO DEAL WITH DURING THE WITCH HUNT TRIAL. HIS DAUGHTER WORKED FOR 'KAMALA' & NOW THE BIDEN-HARRIS CAMPAIGN. KANGAROO COURT!!!" he concluded.
