'Limetown': Jessica Biel's Lia has some weird fetishes along the way in the mystery thriller and fans are confused
Spoilers ahead for Episode 4 'Napoleon' of 'Limetown'
The last two episodes of Facebook Watch's 'Limetown' titled 'Rake' and Napoleon' respectively, led Lia Haddock (Jessica Biel) to make some very disturbing discoveries about the neuroscience research facility, Limetown.
As it turns out, the research facility was conducting experiments on animals in order to find a way for people to communicate "mind-to-mind".
Needless to say, the testing first begins on animals because as Reverand Warren Chambers (John Beasley) points out, no one would bat an eye if animals, especially pigs, are harmed in the way of finding the larger truth.
The Reverand is one of Limetown's survivors. To meet with him, Lia visits Rake, Wyoming with Mark (Omar Elba). Her editor Gina Purri (Sherri Saum), on finding out that Lia was given a bloody warning earlier, forces her to take Mark along for her safety.
At first, Lia is adamant that she must pursue the investigation alone, but fearing for her safety, Gina pushes her to take Mark along.
The duo first meets Lindsay Frost (French Stewart), who straddles them along with a completely unrelated story. Disappointed with this misleading lead, Lia and Mark retire to a hotel room that they're sharing with each other — on two separate beds.
But here is the weird part. Mark is asleep on the neighboring bed with a sleeping mask on his eyes. Lia is working listening to her recorder for notes.
She then moves her recorder to near Mark's face and listens to him breathe. Then, she masturbates right beside his bed to him breathing — a scene so vague that we couldn't make anything of it.
This is also not the first time that Lia has gotten off in a disturbing way. Earlier this season, she had recorded herself having sex with her girlfriend and later masturbated to the recording — a scene that is not only disturbing to watch but made most viewers extremely uncomfortable.
Disturbing as it is, we and the fans are trying to make sense of the scene. It is also worth noting that this addition to Lia's character goes astray from the original podcast that the Facebook Watch series is based on.
"If you would have told me that I would have to explain to my wife that Lia isn't a weird, creepy, sexual deviant who gets her rocks off over her work colleagues breath in the podcast. I would not have believed you," pointed out a fan.
"I feel like that scene (and a similar scene earlier in the series) felt very out of place and was uncomfortable to watch. I don't know if that's the intention with the scene, but it seems like an odd choice," the fan shared.
"Honestly I’m trying to find the purpose in why they included it in the story. All it does is make Lia seem weird and less likable. It doesn’t add to the Limetown story, and it seems like an odd way to show how Lia is obsessed with audio," the fan added.
These sexually motivated additions are pushing fans of the podcast away from the series. "Imagine if that was a male character jacking off to a female character sleeping. There would be a huge outcry," reflected one fan.
"For that reason alone it makes me wonder who behind the scenes thought the scene was a good idea, and honestly it makes it difficult for me to recommend the show," the fan added.
It is indeed difficult to point out Lia's reasoning behind this. At the same time, however, it could be left just as vague. Two new episodes for 'Limetown' will be available every Wednesday at 12 pm PT/3 pm ET.
