NY Post roasted for calling Leonardo DiCaprio 'unrecognizable' in Martin Scorsese film: 'He's on the right'
On April 11, Apple officially released its first image of Martin Scorcese's highly anticipated film 'Killers of the Flower Moon'. The western, set in Oklahoma in the 1920s, features Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert DiNero and Lily Gladstone in lead roles. It is based on a novel of the same name by David Grann.
The film finally started production on April 19 following a series of delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic. No release date has yet been announced, but the movie is expected to hit theatres before being available on Apple TV Plus.

Like the novel, the film is based on the series of accidents, poisonings and shootings that killed members of the Osage Indian nation in the 1920s. DiCaprio plays Ernest Burkhart, and Gladstone his lover, Mollie. The first still was released by DiCaprio on Twitter, showing him and Gladstone sharing a traditional Osage meal. While many have praised and shared good things about the image, one publication decided to go down a very different route.
The New York Post said DiCaprio looked "unrecognizable in first photos of new Scorsese film". The article claimed that "in the first look, fans see a notably plain-looking DiCaprio, 46, seated aside Gladstone, 34, lit starkly in a dining room". Perhaps unrecognizable wasn't the best way to describe the still. It seems like Twitter agreed, and shortly after the article was published, people began mocking it.
'What? Are you drunk?'
"You know who that guy looks like? Leonardo DiCaprio!" tweeted author David Corn. One user joked, "Not sure if I'm comfortable with Leonardo DiCaprio playing a Native woman." Another shared a meme and tweeted, "New York Post: Leonardo DiCaprio is unrecognizable. Me:" One user commented, "Whoda thought Leonardo DiCaprio would look like Leonardo DiCaprio in a photo from the set of his new film?"

One user commented, "If I had not read the blurb I would have still known that was Leonardo DiCaprio so I'm pretty sure he's recognizable. And that's saying a lot because I've never seen a Leonardo DiCaprio movie in my life." Another said, "He’s on the right Do i get a balloon."

Scorsese and Eric Roth have written the screenplay for the film, which revolves around the love story between Ernest and Mollie during the Osage Nation murders. Interestingly, Gladstone is a Native American, having grown up on the Blackfeet reservation in Montana. The film also stars Jesse Plemons, Cara Jade Myers, Janae Collins, Jillian Dion, William Belleau, Jason Isbell, Louis Cancelmi, Scott Shepherd and Sturgill Simpson in supporting roles.
