LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Lorca Cohen, 48, and Adam Cohen, 50, have filed a lawsuit against attorney Robert Kory, 72, in Los Angeles Superior Court, more than a year ago over their father Leonard Cohen’s $48M estate. Robert was appointed by Leonard as a trustee to the Leonard Cohen Family Trust before the ‘Hallelujah’ singer’s death on November 7, 2016.

According to the court filing, as stated by New York Post, Lorca and Adam claim Leonard "came to appreciate in his waning days that he had made a grave error by allowing Kory to insinuate himself into Leonard's affairs and take control over virtually every aspect of Leonard's finances and legacy." Leonard left behind an estate worth more than $48 million, which includes around 243 journals, 8,000 photographs, copious notes on his greatest hits — including the revelation that he wrote 82 verses for 'Hallelujah,' millions of dollars in royalties, among others.

The siblings have complained that Robert has since gained monetary benefits from Leonard's estate by publishing a novel about the singer called 'A Ballet of Lepers' and launching an exhibit at Toronto’s Art Gallery of Ontario, 'Everybody Knows.' Lorca and Adam also complained that Robert employed his son, Ryan Kory, among others, to archive Cohen’s personal papers.

A lawyer, named Adam Streisand, hired two months ago by Adam and Lorca said he has proof that Robert forged documents in 2005 in order to control the singer’s legacy. He said, "Leonard Cohen’s lawyers and manager forged his trust so they could fleece the estate of millions of dollars and steal the Hall of Famer’s legacy from his own children." However, Robert has denied foul play and said that he sends Lorca and Adam monthly financial statements.

Reeve Chudd, a lawyer for Leonard on April 8, 2021, letter wrote, "In 2016, without Mr Kory's request, Mr Cohen instructed me to change the successors trustee to Mr Kory. He was concerned that his children didn't have a sufficiently comfortable relationship to work together upon the complexities of the artist's estate. While Mr Cohen didn’t wish for this change in succession of trusteeship to be revealed to his children, Mr Kory insisted, and this was explained to Adam and Lorca at a meeting in September 2015." As per New York Post, Lorca and Adam receive $400K each year despite having no control of their father's estate.
