Lee Young-ae donates $83k, Ukraine ambassador to S Korea thanks actress

The crisis situation in Ukraine caused by Russia's incursion has prompted a flood of donations from all over the world. Speaking of that, ‘Inspector Koo’ fame Lee Young-ae, 51, donated to Ukraine a huge amount and made headlines. Moreover, the Ukrainian ambassador who spoke in Seoul regarding South Korea’s support thanked her.

In view of the ongoing crisis, actress Lee Young-ae on March 1 donated 100 million won ($83,225) in support of Ukraine. Lee Young-ae also provided a handwritten letter with the money, expressing her desire for the war to cease. Lee Young Ae, 51, is a veteran actor who debuted in 1990. She is well-known for her movies ‘Last Present’, ‘Bring Me Home’ and dramas like ‘Dae Jang Geum’ and 'Saimdan, Memoir of Colors.’ For her generous donation, Ukrainian Ambassador Dmytro Ponomarenko shared his heartfelt thanks via a Tweet that reads, “🇺🇦❤️🇰🇷We are very excited and touched by the letter and the great financial contribution of the famous Korean actress Lee Young-Ae in support of Ukraine and the demand to end the war as soon as possible! The donations will be transferred to the needs of victims of 🇷🇺 aggression.” Along with the tweet, he attached the letter of Lee Young-ae that had her comforting words.

Lee Young-ae's words of hope

In the letter written in Korean, Lee expressed her sadness and prayer to all the people affected by the war. The letter reads, “Dear the beloved citizens of Ukraine, I am an actress named Lee Young Ae, who lives in South Korea. As a family member of a war veteran, I am feeling the cruelty of war far more deeply than anyone else. I earnestly wish for war to end in Ukraine and for peace to be restored. I pray for all of the Ukrainian citizens' safety and wellbeing. To the Ukrainian citizens who love freedom and peace, I plead with you to not lose hope and courage! As one among many citizens who love peace in a free South Korea, I want to deliver my small but precious heart to all the citizens of Ukraine. May god always be with you." Her letter moved many viewers and she is being appreciated for her kind act. Apart from Lee, Red Velvet’s Yeri also posted a story showing her support to end the war. On her Instagram story, Yeri posted a picture of a camera where ‘No War Please’ was written on the lens by Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev. Additionally, many Korean people are also donating as much as they can.

UE Ambassador requests S.Korea to sanction Russia

On February 25, 2022, Ukraine ambassador Dmytro Ponomarenko attended a press conference in Seoul to request aid from South Korea. He said, “We urge the international community to show solidarity with Ukraine by imposing immediately the massive coordinated sanctions against Russia and isolating Russia in all possible international fora.” Though Ukraine is in need of military supplies as well, Dmytro as of now requested for Korea to sanction Russia. In addition to this, when Lee Young-ae donated, many Ukrainians and others sent her wishes for wishing Ukraine the best. One Twitter user wrote, "This is super thoughtful of her 😘". Another person tweeted saying, "Heart of gold!!!". On the other hand, there were also some comments saying her choice of donating to Ukraine was wrong. This one user wrote, "Stupid, she should donate to Russia ❤️🇷🇺"
