Did Shane Warne's 14-day liquid diet trigger heart attack? Experts link extreme detox to death
However, Warne was found unconscious on his bed later in the day, which led to failed CPR attempts to revive him. He was then rushed to the Thai International Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. It has been reported that he died due to a suspected heart attack.
Now, new images taken by a forensic team reportedly show the Australian spinner’s room with a packet of his Benson and Hedges smokes and a lighter on the bedhead. Besides, his travel bag contained a speaker, Reef tanning oil, toothpaste, a condom, a cap, shaving cream, and a belt. According to a police report, Warne had a 2.5cm scratch on the right side of his body on his rib cage but that has not been considered suspicious.
Meanwhile, Warne’s grieving family has reportedly revealed that he has been facing heart issues for some time. The Daily Mail also stated that he “had also completed a 14-day liquid only diet, described by his manager James Erskine as ‘extreme’ and ‘ridiculous.’” Apparently, the father-of-three wanted to lose some weight and look his best by July 2022.
Heart Foundation's chief medical advisor Professor Garry Jennings said that under some conditions, these kinds of extremities put one’s heart at risk. Jennings added: “Mostly, these risks are on top of an underlying heart problem, they don't come out of the blue. I doubt they could cause a heart problem just by themselves.”
Reports have said that Warne will be given a state funeral at Melbourne Cricket Ground on March 30. His devastated family will also organize a private service for him. In a statement, Warne’s parents – Keith and Brigitte Warne – said: “The night of the 4th of March 2022 is when a never-ending nightmare began for our family, for that is the date we lost our much loved and admired son, father, brother and Uncle, 'Shane Keith Warne' a tragedy we will never come to terms with. To find words to adequately express our sadness is an impossible task for us and looking to a future without Shane is inconceivable, hopefully the mountain of happy memories we all have will help us cope with our ongoing grief.”
They added: “Brigitte and I are most grateful for the many messages of love and support received over the past few days and thank one and all for their kind words of comfort. We also wish to acknowledge and thank those members of the media who are honouring our request to respect our family's privacy and who will continue to do so.”
