Why did Krista Joiner file for divorce? Xzibit arrested hours after wedding leading to end of 20-year love story
Krista Joiner, the wife of American rapper, actor, songwriter, television host, and radio personality Alvin Nathaniel Joiner, better known by his stage name Xzibit, has filed for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court. The ‘Pimp My Ride’ star and Krista’s split comes after nearly twenty years of being together.
As per reports, the two began dating in 2001. But it was only on November 29, 2014, that the two got married. As per the Daily Mail, Krista wore a mermaid staples gown featuring a sweetheart neckline with a black ribbon with a brooch detail as a belt on the wedding day. The rapper meanwhile wore a black Louis Vuitton suit with a streamlined bowtie. While most couples exchange rings, the pair also got matching his and hers diamond-encrusted Rolex wristwatches.

The rapper had said then, “We were surrounded by friends and family and had an outstanding ceremony... There was a time I thought I would never get married. I thought that being single was the only way for me, not knowing that I was giving up more of myself to people who didn't care about me or love me unconditionally. I had to do a lot of growing up and over time came the maturity I needed to be able to make a commitment stronger than anything that I have done in my life outside of being a father to my two beautiful sons.”
But their wedding day was soon followed by trouble. Just hours after the wedding, the following morning, he was arrested for an alleged DUI. He was driving in his silver Range Rover around 12:27 am when Laguna Beach, California, police noticed him driving at a "high rate of speed." "Another officer caught up to the vehicle and made a traffic stop," according to a statement from Laguna Beach Captain Jason Kravetz to ABC News. "The officer contacted the driver and smelled alcohol. This started a 'driving under the influence' investigation which ended with the arrest of Alvin Nathaniel Joiner."
He was arrested for one misdemeanor count of DUI. He was released the next morning after a "sobering period," according to an ABC News report. It was later reported that he pleaded guilty. The rapper served three years of probation and completed an alcohol education class before the case was closed.
But the couple has seen other problems as well. Over the course of their relationship, they welcomed two sons together, Xavier and Gatlyn. Xavier, however, died in May 2008, days after his premature birth. Their second son, Gatlyn, was born in June 2010 and is now 10.
The star is also the father to a son named Tremaine Joiner from a previous relationship. Tremain, known professionally as Tre Capital, is 25 now. Right now, details regarding custody of Gatlyn and child support are not available. Neither person’s reps have issued statements as of yet.
