Kim Kardashian is 'insecure' of Kylie Jenner's increasing fans, pays for 'fake' Instagram followers
There was a time when Kim Kardashian was the reality TV queen, attracting more social media followers than any of her sisters or stepsisters. However, times have changed. Now, the entire Kardashian-Jenner clan, including Kim, is competing with Kylie Jenner's immense influence on social media, particularly Instagram.
Although the mother-of-four has never publicly admitted to the fact that she was struggling to keep up with her 22-year-old sister, sources have revealed that the KKW Beauty mogul had secretly paid a third party to help her gain followers on Instagram and stay ahead of her sister.
“Kim is really insecure that Kylie’s follower count is always rising. She always wants to be on top, she’s really competitive,” an insider explained.
While the 39-year-old has a whopping 154 million followers on the platform, Kylie has 153 million, and the amount of engagement on the latter's profile is significantly higher than Kim’s. Also, Kylie gets 30 percent more likes than Kim on every selfie she posts on social media.
“She gets three to four times more likes/comments than Kim,” the insider added. “It’s really killing Kim’s ego. That’s why Kim is going on a media tour right now; she’s trying to encourage Instagram to remove the like count so she doesn’t look less popular than Kylie.”
It is speculated that at least 20 percent of Kim’s followers on Instagram were bots and fake profiles.
Meanwhile, while Kylie was pegged as the star who charged the most per Instagram post for the second year straight, Kim came in at the fourth place. The lip kit mogul charged around $1,266,000 per post.
Recently, Kim has become a strong advocate for getting rid of the like button on social media platforms.
During an appearance at The New York Times DealBook event on November 11, Kim said, “As far as mental health, I mean it’s something that taking (Instagram) ‘likes’ away and taking that aspect away from it would be really beneficial for people.”
