'Kidding' Season 2 Finale Preview: Jeff may continue caring for patients, unsure of answering Jill’s question

Jill asks Jeff a question he isn't sure he can answer which is surprising considering he never keeps anything a secret except that one time he bought the house next to hers

In episode 7 of the second season of Showtime's tragicomedy 'Kidding', we see Deirdre Piccirillo (Catherine Keener) deal with the absence of her brother Jeff Piccirillo (Jim Carrey) during the award ceremony that would honor him with a Lifetime Achievement Award. In the episode titled ‘The Acceptance Speech’, Jeff was off at an institute that cares for older people who suffer from dementia while his father Seb (Frank Langella) suffered a minor stroke that has him seeing the past.

Episode 8 takes us back to how 'Puppet Time' was first created. Years ago, when the Kennedy Space Centre was set to launch a rocket into space, Jeff saw the dreams of children get crushed as a malfunction resulted in the rocket exploding. Jeff, in ‘Seat on the Rocket’ is then able to recruit his sister Deirdre to use the same power of TV to heal the children. Together they come up with 'Puppet Time' and in this process, Astron-otter was born.

The Showtime series is due for its last two episodes of this season. Here’s what’s going to happen:

According to the official synopsis for the episode on the Showtime website, in episode 9, titled ‘The Nightingale Pledge’, “Jeff learns the safest place for him is far away from everyone. Will talks to a mysterious visitor at his school. With Maddy’s help, Deirdre gets a win for the show.”

The episode’s name refers to a modified version of the Hippocratic Oath (historically taken by doctors across the globe), named in honor of Florence Nightingale. It reads:

“I solemnly pledge myself before God and in the presence of this assembly to pass my life in purity and to practice my profession faithfully. I shall abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous and shall not take or knowingly administer any harmful drug. I shall do all in my power to maintain and elevate the standard of my profession and will hold in confidence all personal matters committed to my keeping and all family affairs coming to my knowledge in the practice of my calling. I shall be loyal to my work and devoted towards the welfare of those committed to my care.”

This may well be a continuation of Jeff caring for dementia patients. Perhaps, in the process, he will stay away from his audience, who he likes to believe are his friends.

Little is known about episode 10 except that it is called ‘The Puppet Dalai Lama’ and that per IMDb, in this episode, Jill asks Jeff a question he isn't sure he can answer. Jill is in a position to ask Jeff a number of questions, even though they are now officially divorced. It’s also hard to believe that Jeff, who never keeps anything a secret (except that one time he bought the house next to hers), would be unsure of answering questions. But knowing ‘Kidding’, there could be a perfectly bizarre reason for that!

The last two episodes of ‘Kidding’ will air on Sunday, March 8, at 10 pm EST on Showtime.
