Khloe Kardashian reveals she feels LESS connected to surrogate-born son Tatum in bombshell revelation
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Khloe Kardashian recently revealed the name of her baby boy after almost a year since his birth. This is the reality TV star's second child through surrogacy with her ex-boyfriend Tristan Thompson. While the name comes after a long wait, it seems that Khloe has bigger issues to deal with. The reality TV star opened up on how she wasn't feeling connected to her baby boy.
During the season three premiere of 'The Kardashians' on Thursday, May 25, Khloe remarked that "naming a human is really hard", sharing that his name was Tatum. Khloe, who is also the mother of a 5-year-old daughter, True Thompson, confirmed that her 9-month-old son's name would adhere to the tradition of starting with a 'T' matching their daughter's name.

Khloe admits to feeling less connected to the baby because of surrogacy
Despite both of her children having the same initials, Khloe shared on the Hulu show that she feels a lesser connection to Tatum compared to baby True, attributing it to the surrogacy process. "It was a mindf**k," she remarked. "It's just the weirdest thing." "I do think there is a difference when the baby is in your belly, the baby actually feels your real heart. There is no one else on this planet who will feel you from the inside like that," explained Kim, who used surrogacy for two of her four pregnancies. "People can connect in different ways, some cannot connect."
Khloe reluctantly acknowledged that people have told her it can take time to establish that bond. She also expressed some envy towards her sister Kim Kardashian, who apparently had an easier time connecting with her two youngest children, Chicago and Psalm, who were born via surrogacy. "I definitely buried my head in the sand during that pregnancy and that I didn't digest what was happening," Khloe explained in the episode. "So I think when I went to the hospital, I really think that was the first time that it really registered," she said.
Khloe emphasized that her feelings of disconnect have nothing to do with the baby, but rather stem from the circumstances surrounding his birth and how it felt "transactional" to her. "You're just like, 'Ok, we're having a baby and this is my son and I'm taking him home with me,'" she explained. "I definitely was in a state of shock from my entire experience. I felt really guilty that this woman just had my baby and I take the baby and I go in another room and we are sort of separated. I felt that it was such a transactional experience because it's not about him."
Reflecting on the circumstances, Khloe expressed that she wished she had been more knowledgeable about surrogacy and its complexities before making the decision to proceed with it. "I wish someone was honest about surrogacy and the difference of it. It doesn't mean it's bad or good. It's still great. It's just very different," she says.
'Not all mothers bond immediately'
Online critics and fans of Khloe definitely were abuzz after her admission. On Facebook, a critic of Khloe wrote, "Well her boyfriend’s got no trouble disassociating himself with his very own son so who cares." One social media user sided with Khloe explaining with her own situation as she shared, "Not all mothers bond immediately. I raised my stepson as my own since he was 18 months, I got pregnant when he was 4. I was so terrified that my feelings for him would change when I had a biological child. When his brother was born, I couldn't bond with him for about a month. I absolutely, wholeheartedly loved him more than life itself, but just couldn't find it. And you know what? That's ok. Emotions are difficult, hormones are raging, and there was no playbook on how to handle this situation. All my kids know, and they couldn't care less, especially little bro. To all of you saying she's a bad mother for this, shame on you. You're the reason our maternal death rate is disgusting. You're the reason people don't speak up about mental health issues. Get over yourself."
Another feared for Tatum's mental health if he were to see these reports as a child, saying, "I wish she never say things like these publicly. The son will grow up and see them. It might somehow harm him mentally." One user tried to present her theory that Khloe's feelings were 'normal' saying: "It's a normal thing ,I believe more than fifty percent of women who use surrogacy go through the phase...but with time they will adjust."
'He is a little chunk'
When asked about the reason for the delay in announcing her son's name, the 38-year-old revealed that it took her some time to decide on the perfect name for him. "I wanted to meet him and feel him out a little bit," she said on the April 5 episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show. "At first, he didn't have a name. Then, he's been named but I've been waiting for the premiere of our show and I didn't know it was going to be this far out." Khloe added of her baby boy, "He is a little chunk... I wouldn't have it any other way."
'Khloe picked really cute baby names'
These were some of the reactions when fans got to know of the name earlier at the start of May. "Khloe’s named her son Tatum. It’s the most normal name within all the kids," said one, while another said, "tatum and true khloe picked really cute baby names." A third joked, "Whew Khloe named the baby Tatum Robert, not Tristan. Thank god lol," while a fourth agreed, saying, "so Khloe son’s name is Tate?! short for Tatum Robert. that’s not bad, i’m just glad she didn’t name him Tristan Jr." A somewhat disppointed fan wrote, "I can't believe we waited eight months just to find out khloe named her baby tatum." Another said, "Tatum Robert…. That’s khloe’s son’s name. Don’t hate it don’t love it."
