Kate and William are trying to emulate Harry and Meghan Markle and get popular among youth, says expert
A royal family expert believes that Prince William and Princess Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are trying to "emulate" Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in how the Sussexes are popular with younger people due to their being more open with the public. The relationship between William and Harry reportedly remains tense following Harry's and Meghan's interview with Oprah Winfrey which aired on CBS on March 7.
Meghan and Harry sat down with Oprah for their first exclusive interview about what happened during Meghan's time with the royal family and what led to them distancing themselves from the British monarchy. Meghan opened up about her struggles and also reflected on having "suicidal thoughts", even stating that she did not receive any help from the royal family.

Meghan revealed that there were discussions among the royal family about what their firstborn's skin color might be. She also spoke about why her son, Archie, was not given a royal title. She told Winfrey that the palace decreed that Archie would not have any title, a move she said was "different from protocol." She said in the interview, "They didn't want him to be a prince... which would be different from protocol, and that he wasn't going to receive security."
During the interview, Meghan also spoke of her sister-in-law, when she insisted that the stories about her making her sister-in-law cry leading up to her 2018 wedding were, in fact, the other way around. "The reverse happened," Meghan had claimed in the interview. "It was a really hard week of the wedding and she was upset about something, but she owned it, she apologized, and brought me flowers."
In a response to a question from a reporter whether the royal family was racist, William responded, "We are very much not a racist family," as the royal family continues to stay silent on the allegations made by the Sussexes.
As tensions between the Cambridges and the Sussexes continue to be high, however, royal family author Penny Junor told The Telegraph, as reported by Express.co.uk, she believes that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are "acutely aware of the following the Sussexes have got" and added that they are "rightly trying to emulate it", as the Sussexes are popular among younger people.
Junor also compared the current situation to when Princess Diana joined the royal family, saying that William and Kate are "learning there is traction to be had in being a little more open with the public."
Junor said, "People my age are bemused and appalled by what Harry and Meghan said on Oprah but younger people, who don’t give two hoots about monarchy, sided with the Sussexes and they are the future. Maybe the Cambridges are learning, just as the Royal Family did when Diana came into the family and started doing things in a different way, that there is traction to be had in being a little more open with the public.”
