LONDON: Kate Middleton will work with the eight-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer in September for a charitable event. They will also be seen spending time with school children for a day. An official announcement said that the pair will come together for a collaboration that will benefit two associations. The Duchess of Cambridge is patron to both the organizations.

As per reports, the royal member, who loves tennis, is an avid player herself. On the other hand, Federer is the co-founder of the Laver Cup, which sees team Europe competing with team World, which consists of players across the globe except Europe. This year’s event will take place from September 23 to September 25 at The O2.

However, the Laver Cup Open Practice Day will be held on September 22 and upon Kate’s suggestion, ahead of the first day, the Cup will host a day of tennis in East London. It has been said that Kate and the tennis ace, along with children aged eight to 15, will have a “memorable and engaging tennis experience”. Those children are "supported by Action for Children," the announcement read.

Tickets for Open Practice Day, which will witness Federer and other players from both the teams in training, will be sold from August 22. Funds raised from the event will reportedly be divided between two organizations — Action for Children and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) that does all contributions through LTA Tennis Foundation.

The statement noted that Action for Children will use the money to “provide practical and emotional care and support for children, as well as making sure they can have fun through activities and days out.” The LTA Tennis Foundation will reportedly use the amount to “fund the SERVES programme, specifically going towards fifty new LTA SERVES coaching programmes for children in some of the most deprived areas of the country, including near The O2 in London, to leave a lasting Laver Cup legacy.”

However, it’s not the first time Kate and Federer have come together, as they apparently share a friendly bond. The 41-year-old Swiss legend and his wife Mirka went to the 2017 wedding of Kate's younger sister Pippa Middleton with James Matthews. Besides, Prince George has received direct instruction from Federer on how to play tennis in the past.

The young prince’s proud mother had said: “George’s favourite tennis player is Roger Federer, and he’s actually got to play with him.” Kate had also declared that “Roger is my mother’s heartthrob. I don’t think she will mind me saying that! I think he probably knows that too.” Federer had commented on George’s skills by saying, “At that stage it's all about just touching the ball. It's already good. Same with my boys.”

Meanwhile, people on Twitter have praised Kate for her initiative as a user wrote: “What a great collaboration, Catherine is always working for the betterment of children 😊.” Another user said, “Great way to raise some money for some good causes. Love it 💖.” “THE #DuchessofCambridge and THE Roger Federer, like when they wanted top tier, they got THE top tier in royalty and in tennis greatness. So excited!!!” a third beamed.
