LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Rapper Kanye West has issued an apology about his comments on George Floyd’s death following disapproval and a $250M lawsuit filed by Floyd’s ex-girlfriend, Roxie Washington. He had previously stated that the 46-year-old man had died of fentanyl abuse rather than police brutality, a statement that was met with intense backlash.

According to The Daily Mail, the apology was given at an impromptu press conference by West, while surrounded by paparazzi. This is one one of those extremely rare instances where the 'Fade' rapper has apologized for his statements.

Kanye is quoted to have said, “When I see that video as a Black person, it hurts my feelings,” West said, adding, “And I know that police do attack [sic] and that America is generally racist. And I understand that when we got to say Black Lives Matter, the idea of it made us feel good together as a people. Now, afterwards there was some things where the money went in order to push us to the Democratic vote.”

West also acknowledged that he was now aware that his words could not be thrown to the wind and that he was being held accountable. He has decided to eat humble pie after Adidas and many other luxury brands scrapped their partnership with him, which led to him losing more than a billion dollars and even losing his billionaire status.

“So when I questioned the death of George Floyd, it hurt my people,” he continued, adding, “I want to apologize. Because God has showed me by what adidas is doing, by what the media is doing, I know what it feels to have a knee on my neck right now. So thank you God for humbling me and letting me know how it really felt. Because how could the richest black men ever be humbled other than to be made to not be a billionaire in front of everyone off of one comment.”

His apology about his comments come days after Washington, on behalf of Floyd's daughter, announced that a $250M dollar suit has been filed against West for his comments and the apparent misinformation. Regarding the comments, The Guardian reported that Washington’s lawyer said, “Mr Floyd’s cause of death is well-settled through evidence presented in courts of law during the criminal and civil trials that were the result of his untimely and horrific death. Nevertheless you have maliciously made statements that are inaccurate and unfounded, causing damage to Mr Floyd’s estate and his family.”
