BTS ARMY is furious over an auction that offered Jimin's unwashed hanbok. My Art Auction, a company that approached designer Kim Rieul for auctioning Jimin's unwashed hanbok-styled suit, had to finally cancel the bidding after facing fans' fury.

On April 20, BTS ARMY came across the news which said the hanbok that Grammy-nominated group member Jimin wore for last year's ‘The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon’ 'Idol' performance will be auctioned by a company called My Art Auction. What struck them as "disgusting" is the company's selling point which said the hanbok was unwashed and it had Jimin's sweat and body odor. The opening bid reportedly started at $4,480, according to Korea Economic Daily.

Did Big Hit auction Jimin's hanbok?

While it is not confirmed if BTS' label Big Hit Music was asked before the hanbok went on to be auctioned, fans have reported that Big Hit tried to buy back the hanbok from the designer. A fan said, "The designer of the hanbok declined to sell the costume to big hit, instead he lent it to them and than when he got it bck he put it up for auction unwashed advertising it as having JM sweat on it. Making it very disrespectful to JM!" Another fan posed a different opinion and said, "Mics with the members lip gloss stains are auctioned by HYBE Them: It was done by HYBE so bts must've consented. A "Designer's Hanbok" that JM wore is auctioned to promote Korean culture. Them: JM's body odour. It must be without consent. Do members personally speak to you?"

He is 'not a doll'

Fans have also slammed the company for objectifying a person. A fan wrote, "It was PROMOTED as an UNWASHED PIECE OF CLOTHING CONTAINING J/M'S SWEAT.. they wanted to auction an UNWASHED hanbok that's just straight up weird and invasive! j/m is not a doll or an object!" An ARMY shared, "Mad about sweaty clothes not being sold without his consent, that man was literally advertising jms sweat as the star of the show, yall need to get help and stop using the boys for bragging rights and actually give a damn about them as people, that shit was weird and invasive."

A fan noted that many other celebrities have submitted their “unwashed” personal pieces for increased value and authenticity. Examples include Harry Styles’ unwashed Burberry shirt, Michael Jordan's Nike Air Jordan worn in 1985, Sylvester Stallone’s "Rocky" sweatshirt, Pelé World Cup shirt & more. The user added, "Being uncomfortable with celebrities auctioning their worn outfits to art collectors isn’t a problem but reading and spreading misinformation is. The stylist has been harassed, cursed and slandered massively for days over this. We hope this thread will better your understanding."

According to the latest report, the auction was called off after facing backlash from fans while Big Hit Music is yet to make an official statement regarding this. A new statement says that the hanbok will be available for previewing only. Read the statement here.
