April's Naeun to be edited out of ‘Delicious Rendezvous’ amid bullying row, pulled from brand promotions
April member Naeun has been accused of being a school bully by anonymous users and a few days after the allegations emerged, the K-pop crooner is also being removed from promotional content of brands. Along with brands like Dong Suh Food, Samjin Pharmaceutical, J.ESTINA and Muhak, a popular cooking show, ‘Delicious Rendezvous’, has also stated that they will edit Naeun’s portions as much as they can. All the advertisements in which the K-pop star appeared for some of the brands have also been made private.
For the unversed, anonymous users alleged Naeun of being a bully in an online forum on March 1. A user shared, “In my sixth year of elementary school, Naeun cursed at me for no reason, and the so-called ‘group of delinquents’ that included Naeun always ostracized me.” The person added, “I think what I experienced was school violence, and I think it’s only right that I receive an apology. Physical violence isn’t the only type of violence.” As proof, the user shared Naeun’s elementary graduation photo.
A different screenshot between a person named Lee Na-eun and one of the users also surfaced from 2013 where the former is threatening the latter saying, “Do you also want to be sexually assaulted by Go Young Wook?” Go Young Wook was arrested for sexually assaulting minors in 2010.
What did her agency say?
Naeun’s agency DSP Media stated, “On the morning of March 2, through law firm ELPS, the company filed criminal complaints against the cases in which malicious manipulated posts and false information were spread regarding our artist.”
The statement added, “Our artists are being deeply hurt by the distorted and malicious false posts. From the moment we post this announcement and onwards, we will take strong action against all posts that contain malicious slander and false information about our artists as well as the spread of these posts. There will be no leniency or negotiation.”
Followed by the allegations and DSP Media’s post, a cooking show ‘Delicious Rendezvous’ where Naeun was a part of an episode stated, “We will edit out her parts in the episode airing on March 4 as much as possible without affecting the content.”
Internet users have also weighed in their opinions on the allegations. A user said, “yeah most people have made mistakes in the past but...i don’t think that most of us have bullied someone to the degree of making them want to take their own life…” Another said, “I don't want to hear anyone of ya'll defending April, saying how innocent they are - even when Hyunjoo's brother already showed real hospitalization/medical records that proved the poor girl's attempted su*cide!”
