Why Judi Dench won't marry partner David Mills who stood by her as she struggled with failing eyesight
OUTWOOD, SURREY: Judi Dench recently opened up about her deteriorating eyesight which has caused her professional work to become "impossible" to tackle. Despite the tough times, the 88-year-old actress, who was widowed after her husband Michael Williams died in 2001, has been lucky in love as she found a new partner nine years later. Dench's boyfriend former farmer David Mills takes care of the actress during her complex illness despite her refusing to marry him.
The 'Red Joan' actress and her conservationist boyfriend Mills met in 2010 when he invited her to open a squirrel enclosure at his wildlife center located near her home in Surrey. The pair felt an instant connection, which caught the actress off guard as she was not ready to find love again. Later on, Dench admitted that the bond progressed gradually and was very mature. While addressing the romance rumors piling up when the couple began dating, Dench said: "It doesn't have to be a great passionate sexual affair, but it is nice to have someone who says, 'I'll find your keys for you,' or 'Let's go to the theatre tonight.' Very nice." Dench and Mills, who have been together for 13 years, are still smitten with each other, according to AmoMama.

Is Dench completely blind?
It was in 2012, two years after the lovebirds met and started dating when Dench began developing trouble with her eyesight. Her condition, which has caused the actress to no longer be able to see, is Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD). While the 'Mrs Brown' actress is not completely blind, she does find reading to be very difficult. This has caused her acting career to become "impossible" as she is unable to read her dialogues. The actress has also reportedly confessed that the condition trip and fall over her carpet, unable to get up for half an hour.
Boyfriend Mills takes care of Dench
Despite the tough period, Dench is grateful for the people who strive to make everything easy for her which includes her daughter Finty Williams and partner Mills who lives four miles away from her. The actress recounted an event when Mills cut up food on her plate at a very important dinner because it was too dark for her to able to see. "He cut it up and handed something to me on a fork, and that's the way I ate it," she explained, as per WalesOnline.
Why has Dench not married Mills?
While the undying romance continues to thrive, the couple prefers not to live together because they are too independent to do it. Dench and Mills live separately and have, in fact, spent the lockdown in their own respective homes. Although, the couple is always visiting each other because they live only four miles apart. The actress and her boyfriend have also shut down marriage suggestions, sounding horrified at the prospect of it. "And he is very busy. He has a business to run. But he is so lovely, with a great sense of humor," Dench said, as per Express. Despite not walking down the aisle, Dench gushes over their relationship and considers Mills to be "very romantic."
