Johnny Depp and his lawyer Camille Vasquez's display of affection in court amid the ongoing defamation trial against Amber Heard in Fairfax has caused quite a frency among fans who are speculating that the two are dating. The 38-year-old attorney has been spotted beaming supportively towards Depp and even hugging him inside the courtroom several times during the trial. Vasquez, who's usually sitting beside Depp, has also been spotted whispering in his ear and giggling.

Vasquez has got an incredible amount of social media interest in the past weeks, along with cult-following fan accounts — partly also because of her intense grilling of Amber Heard during the cross examination. There are many fan-created a montages of their court interactions set to romantic audio backdrops, and many others are swooning over the way "he looks at her."

However, body language experts think there's more to these interactions than meets the eye. Some even think it's a 'deliberate' move adopted to portray Depp as a movie-ready ‘romantic hero.’

Tender interactions between the two, according to body-image specialist Judi James, are most likely staged in order to make Depp look softer and more pleasant. “It looks flirtatious but that’s probably the point. If a picture paints a thousand words, these ‘words’ look straight out of the pages of [romance publishing company] Mills & Boon,” James told Daily Mail.

“Her behavior in court places Depp back in the role as the romantic hero. For Depp’s loyal fans these dramatic rituals will seem like validation. "If this smart, beautiful woman thinks he is OK then maybe he is will be the implied message,” James added.

The image of Vasquez hugging Depp while she closed her eyes and smiled peacefully in a shot that went viral. However, James feels it was all staged for the cameras and calls it a "moving piece of body language theatre."

Meanwhile, Depp has been observed pulling out Vasquez's chair and whispering in her ear in response to her loving demonstrations. The actor's actions made him look soft and lovely, in contrast to the aggressive and unstable personality described by his ex-wife Heard on the stand. James said that having Vasquez cross-examine Heard was also purposeful, arguing that having a "fresh, smart, fragrant, and confident-looking female questioning the 'Aquaman' actress adds to the doubts about Depp's alleged abuse."

During the cross-examination, Vasquez and Heard had many heated exchanges, with the lawyer questioning the actress about why there were no medical records from an alleged assault in March 2015. Vasquez also forced Heard to admit that she had not yet contributed the majority of her divorce settlement to charity, as she had pledged. Heard said she had promised to give the money away but was unable to fulfill the duties.

Depp is suing Heard for defamation over an op-ed she published in the Washington Post in 2018 in which she claimed she was a victim of sexual violence. Although she didn't mention Depp by name in the essay, Depp’s legal team claimed the article led to the image and career progression loss for the actor. Depp is suing for $50 million in damages, whereas Heard has countersued the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' actor for $100 million.
