Rogan said, “He trains 365 days a year, how’re you gonna do that? If you’re not juiced up? How’re you gonna recover? How’re you recovering, you’re weight lifting in the morning and then you’re doing jiu-jitsu at night, every day, 365 days a year."

He added, "That’s the way you train like that, you train like that on juice. And if you’re also super intelligent, super dedicated and you have John Danaher in your corner, you become a Gordon Ryan.”

Furthermore, Joe Rogan openly addressed the prevalence of steroid usage in jiu-jitsu, highlighting the lack of steroid testing in top organizations such as Abu Dhabi. He clarified that athletes, including those like Gordon Ryan who are transparent about drug use, often engage in such practices.

Ryan Gordon’s use of PEDs

Ryan has been candid and forthright about his use of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) to expedite recovery and enhance his performance.

In a post on Instagram, he addressed the subject, saying, “…steroids are legal, per the rules, so if you take them – not only are you well within legal parameters, but you’re also helping yourself win as a pro athlete, which as a pro athlete isn’t that your goal?”

In the 2022 ADCC, Gordon Ryan achieved an unprecedented feat by securing victory in the +99-kg class. Notably, he also participated in the super fight against Andre Galvao, showcasing his versatility and skill across different weight classes in the competition.

It was the first time ever that a contestant competed in both the super fight and their weight division.

Gordon Ryan further solidified his place in ADCC history by achieving the quickest submission ever recorded in the organization. He secured a victory over Roosevelt Sousa with an impressive 11-second heel hook.

These accomplishments have firmly established Ryan as one of the most exceptional no-gi grapplers in the history of the sport.
