Joe Rogan reveals 'best' pick between Floyd Mayweather and Mike Tyson: 'He did what he had to'
AUSTIN, TEXAS: During an episode of the Joe Rogan Experience, UFC commentator and host Joe Rogan said that he would choose Floyd Mayweather as the ‘best ever’ over Mike Tyson.
But he then also admitted that he had switched to a larger desk out of respect for "Iron" Mike Tyson.
The 'Joe Rogan Experience' podcast is known for covering a wide variety of subjects — from esoteric mysteries to current political and cultural issues to topics pertaining to the world of wrestling.
He converses with people from many walks of life and frequently shares his opinions about them too.
Joe Rogan picks Floyd Mayweather over Mike Tyson
Terence Crawford and the commentator Joe Rogan were chatting in the latest episode about Francis Ngannou's October fight with Tyson Fury, a crossover boxing event.
But when the conversation moved on to Conor McGregor's battle with Floyd Mayweather Jr, Rogan began sharing his opinion about who he thought was the "best ever".
Although Joe Rogan has a lot of respect for Mike Tyson, he thinks that Tyson's career was not as steady as Mayweather's. On the podcast, Rogan discusses which boxer, in his opinion, is the goat.
“Arguably, he (Floyd Mayweather) is. Not just great defense like the best defense of all time…. I think Mike Tyson [was] in his prime when he knocked out Larry Holmes, when he starched Marvis Frazier, when he was just smashing everybody. I think he had reached this level that you could only maintain for a certain amount of years,” Rogan said.
According to Joe Rogan, if Muhammad Ali and Tyson had competed at the same time, their competition would have spurred their development and improved them as boxers.
It's interesting to note that Tyson dislikes Mayweather, as the two have had a number of contentious encounters in the past.
Rogan then discussed the 2017 fight, popularly known as 'The Money Fight,' because it has one of the greatest PPV buy rates in boxing history.
“That was a fascinating fight. Conor vs. Floyd. Cause Conor’s a talented fighter. But to just jump right in against the best ever. Like that’s just..,” Rogan said.
“He did what he had to do. He got that bag. That’s all it comes down to. You know. Solidifying yourself and taking care of your family,” Bud said, jumping right into the conversation.
'The Notorious' received flowers from Rogan, who also praised him for taking on 'the best ever' aka Floyd Mayweather.
Mike Tyson backs Francis Ngannou for fight against Tommy Fury
Meanwhile, Mike Tyson is currently training Francis Ngannou for his October fight against Tyson Fury. The bout is scheduled for October 28 and will unfold in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Many fans see the contest as nothing more than a cash grab from the former UFC heavyweight champion because it will be the fight with the highest financial reward yet in Ngannou's career.
On his Hotboxin' with Mike Tyson podcast, Tyson told Ngannou that people underestimate him.
“This is what you have to look [at] when you think about him fighting Tyson Fury — Conor McGregor went 11 rounds or 10 rounds with Floyd Mayweather, the greatest fighter of his generation, if not all-time. If that can happen, why can’t he give Tyson [Fury] a capable fight?” Mike Tyson said.
While earlier stating that Ngannou's legendary strength provides him a chance at the upset, Tyson added here that he has been impressed by Ngannou in their training thus far.
