Rogan described one of the designers during the episode saying, "This guy (former GM designer) was a freak, he was wearing crazy red suits, guy was probably definitely on acid and these are the people that created these insane shapes."
The podcaster said that the extensive Psychedelic Drug Act of 1973, which labeled a number of chemicals, including LSD, as Schedule 1 narcotics, irrevocably changed the face of automobile design.
Anthony agreed, saying that the early 1970s represented the apex of automobile design. Rogan added his thoughts, recognizing the eternal appeal of a '71 Barracuda but regretting the later years.
He believes that the automobiles of 1972, 1973, and after were plagued by a lack of creativity, reflecting the decline into mediocrity of the time, which was possibly driven by the drug culture.
