Jim Carrey slashes $2.4M off the asking price for his 30-year-old LA mansion after failing to land buyers
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jim Carrey has slashed $2.4 million off the asking price of his 30-year-old luxurious Los Angeles mansion apparently after failing to land a buyer. The 61-year-old ‘Ace Ventura’ star initially listed the 1951-built ranch-style house in LA’s Brentwood neighborhood for $28.9 million in early February.
Carrey made the price adjustment on April 19 and lowered the mansion's asking price to $26,500,000, according to Radar Online. The actor initially purchased the 2-acre property for $3.8 million in 1994. Nestled behind over 280 feet of hedges, the 12,704 sq. ft. mansion comes with a 5-bedroom, 7.5-bathroom and various amenities including beamed ceilings, skylights, a gym, a theater, a tennis court, a gazebo, a waterfall pool and spa, a pool house with a bar, an infrared sauna, and a steam room, according to Mansion Global.

'30 very creative and prosperous years'
Talking about his time in the home, Carrey told the Wall Street Journal that the mansion had been “a place of enchantment and inspiration” to him. “30 very creative and prosperous years,” he said. Carrey added, “Every night the owls sang me lullabies and every morning I sipped my cup of joe with the hawks and hummingbirds, under a giant grandfather pine.” The 'Eternal Sunshine of spotless mind' star also told New York Post that “For three decades it’s been a sanctuary for me but I don’t spend a lot of time there now and I want someone else to enjoy it as I have.”
He made the choice to sell his long-term residence after selling his second Malibu house for $13.4 million in 2013. The mansion on Malibu Canyon Road in California's most famous beachfront city sold two years after it was placed for sale for $18 million. The actor first got cold feet back in December 2011 when he took the house off the market, only to list it again in June of 2012. The ‘Truman Show’ star originally bought the 2,866 square feet mansion in 2002 for $9.75 million, according to Daily Mail.
Why did Jim Carrey retire from acting?
Carrey now relishes a peaceful life after retiring from acting in 2022 following his appearance in 'Sonic the Hedgehog 2'. “Well, I’m retiring. Yeah, probably. I’m being fairly serious. It depends. If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I’m taking a break,” he told Access Hollywood. Carrey added, “I really like my quiet life and I really like putting paint on canvas and I really love my spiritual life and I feel like — and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists — I have enough. I’ve done enough. I am enough."
