Why was Jermall Charlo arrested?
According to TMZ Sports, Jermall was sent behind bars after he reportedly assaulted a family/household member after having a previous conviction as shared by Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office. The 31-year-old professional boxing star was in custody on Friday, Feb 11, night. If reports are to be believed, Jermall’s arrest is apparently related to a September 21, 2021 incident where was he was accused of "punching or grabbing" a man.
According to the official documents, the man was injured in the alleged altercation. It is believed that the man was a member of Charlo's "family or household”. TMZ reported that the details of the allegations against the boxer were unclear. This is the second time Jermall has got in trouble with the law. Jermall was arrested in 2021 in San Antonio in August after he was accused of stealing from a waitress during a dispute at a bar. The case later got dismissed due to “insufficient evidence” in the records. On February 2, San Antonio, TX, authorities dismissed all robbery charges against him from a dispute over his bill in a sports restaurant in July. That dispute was over whether or not his credit card had been declined and whether he had grabbed the waitress in an altercation to take his card back or not? Charlo denied the robbery charges through his attorney and the attorney continued to maintain that there were witnesses with Charlo who disputed the restaurant's account. In addition, there was video to support Charlo's account.
His attorney, Kent A Schaffer, told TMZ Sports that he believes video and witnesses from the bar ultimately proved Jermall never did anything wrong. "Police eventually turned over the surveillance tapes that showed everything that our witnesses said was true," Schaffer said. "Jermall never robbed anyone at this nightclub and never used force or threat of force against anyone. We have been saying this the whole time he did nothing wrong."
Jermall has won world championships in two weight classes including the WBC middleweight title since 2019. He previously won the IBF light middleweight title from 2015 to 201. His twin brother Jermell Charlo is also a professional boxer and is a current unified light middleweight world champion.
