'You showed me a new way'
This week is significant for the actress as she celebrates her birthday as well as the release of her new AppleTV+ series, ‘The Last Thing He Told Me’, which she stars in and produces with Reese Witherspoon. Additionally, she made an appearance on Drew Barrymore's talk show to promote her latest project. Upon her arrival, the birthday girl was welcomed by a set covered in multicolored balloons, arranged by the 'Never Been Kissed' star, who hosted the show.
During the conversation with Drew, the ‘Yes Day' actress revealed that her performance as Dylan Sanders in Charlie's Angels influenced her role as Sydney Bristow on 'Alias'. 'You showed me a new way. You had shown me something that I was like, "Wait that's possible? Get me in there, I want to do that." So fun,' she said of the role she played from 2001 to 2005.
‘This movie means so much to me’
Garner then discussed how difficult the action drama series' schedule was. She recalled, "Twenty-two episodes a year of every single lunch break I had somebody waiting for me to teach me a fight, teach me a language, to have a fitting...it was just so taxing, and it was also just heaven to do."
Barrymore then switched the topic to the film '13 Going on 30' and added, "This movie means so much to me and my daughters, it meant so much to me when it came out and it means so much to us now." Garner then stated that she had already discussed the film's lasting qualities with former castmates. "I just knew that, we've talked about...how it kind of grows, because I think the kids who were thirteen when it came out are now thirty and god bless them," she remarked.
‘This surprise is really special’
Although Barrymore delighted her guest with balloons and flowers on her birthday, she revealed that she had another surprise in store for her. "This surprise is really special, and it comes from your hometown of Charleston, West Virginia," added the '50 First Dates' actress. "April 17th will be recognized as Jennifer Garner Day in Charleston from now on."
Amy Goodwin, the mayor of Charleston, then made a special visit to discuss the actress' effect on her community, and the actress was also awarded the key to her hometown. Jennifer's longtime boyfriend, John Miller, arrived at the theater discreetly to show his support. The duo has been linked since 2018, yet they keep their relationship private. They are rarely seen together in public.
