Betty White died on New Year's Eve at 99 and since then, fans have been pouring their hearts out and expressing how much they loved the legend. The actress was well aware of the love she receives from her fans and followers. Her agent Jeff Witjas also kept on constantly reminding her of the immense amount of love and respect that she garners. Witjas was not just an agent for White, he was a long-time friend who never missed an opportunity to say how globally loved a start she was.

In a recent interview with People, Witjas opened up about Betty White. He started by saying that the late legend always appreciated the kindness she received from her fans across the world. Witjas said: "She knew it, but I would tell her often. Even when she wasn't working, I said, 'Betty, millions of people out there are still asking for you. You're getting your fan letters, I'm getting offers for you'."

After explaining how Betty White was aware, Witjas added, "I don't know if she ever embraced it, [or] really, really felt it. The extent of it. I really don't. I would always reinforce it with her because I always felt she should know that. I never wanted her to think while she was sitting at home, that the world has passed her by. It never did."

Continuing, Witjas added, "Betty lived a great life and she lived a life that she chose. She was happy. Every time I told her, 'Betty, you're loved,' she would look at me with a wry smile and say, 'Really?' I hope she knew. I think she did. It was something beyond love."

Witjas confirmed that the late legend 'peacefully died in her sleep'. He told the magazine, "she was an incredible lady. Hard to put into words. We had a special relationship, far more than just a client." Talking more about their professional relationship and friendship, Witjas said, "we became really good friends and we always laughed no matter what we did. She was always positive and she always saw the bright side." Witjas added, "she promised me she would live to 100 — and she almost did."

Witjas then shared with PEOPLE that for the past few years, White was comfortably living in her Los Angeles home under the care of a doctor. He went ahead and explained that the medical attention was only to be cautious against Covid and nothing else. He said, "[She] was really simply spending each day at her home. She didn't go out. She was under a doctor's care, not for any reason, other than just being careful with Covid." He added, "I know there was a period where she would address all the fan letters," but that eventually slowed down. "I think, she just didn't have the energy to respond the way she used to. She was reading, she just lived her life. She was home in her comfortable surroundings."
