Jeff Bezos' GF Lauren Sanchez was 'devastated' after she didn't get her dream job as 'The View' host
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The late 1990s were a difficult time professionally for Lauren Sanchez, and she has spoken out about it. Sanchez, 53, revealed that she wanted to host the show 'The View' and was "devastated" when she did not get the job.
Sanchez explained in an interview with WSJ Magazine that in 1999 she believed her career was in free fall after failing to land her dream job on the legendary daytime talk show founded by Barbara Walters. She said, "It was one of the most devastating days of my life. "The Emmy award-winning actress recounted that she had befriended Walters and claimed to have had problems with the initial panelist Star Jones, which eventually led to a reporter named Lisa Ling taking her place. She said that Walters contacted herself to break the discouraging news to her, and that she became a mentor for life.

'Everything happens for a reason'
Sanchez, who lives in Los Angeles while 'The View' is based in New York, claimed that the rejection ultimately turned out to be a good thing because it led to the birth of her first child with former NFL tight end Tony Gonzalez.
"Everything happens for a reason," Sanchez said in reference to losing the dream job. And so it has been, as the former TV host and helicopter pilot has made significant career strides and ultimately gained major media attention since her relationship with Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos came to light in 2019.
In her interview with WSJ, Sanchez also talked about the growing relationship between her family and Bezos' family. She said, "On a typical Saturday, we hang out, we have dinner with the kids, which is always fun because you never know where the conversation is going to go with this many kids. We are the Brady Bunch!"
Sanchez has three children from her previous relationships with her ex-husbands Patrick Whitesell and Tony Gonzalez. On the other hand, Bezos has three biological sons and an adopted daughter with his ex-wife MacKenzie Scott.
"Lauren is the most generous, most big-hearted person that you would ever meet. She is an inspiration in that way at every level. She is generous with somebody she just meets, she's generous with every person and she's generous in the large too," Bezos told CNN in November, 2022.
