NEW YORK CITY: Days before celebrating her 85th birthday, Jane Fonda revealed that her cancer is in remission and that she can stop receiving chemo. The 'Barbarella' actress, who turns 85 on December 21, shared the good news with her followers via her website, calling it "the best birthday present ever."

“Last week I was told by my oncologist that my cancer is in remission and I can discontinue chemo,” she wrote on her website. After a non-Hodgkin's lymphoma diagnosis in September, Fonda, who has previously battled the sickness, disclosed she had the condition. At the time, she told her fans she felt “lucky” because it is “very treatable.” “I am feeling so blessed, so fortunate. I thank all of you who prayed and sent good thoughts my way. I am confident that it played a role in the good news. I'm especially happy because while my first 4 chemo treatments were rather easy for me, only a few days of being tired, the last chemo session was rough and lasted 2 weeks making it hard to accomplish much of anything.”

Fonda, a two-time Oscar winner, stated in September that she felt "privileged" because of her famous status and was "lucky" to "have health insurance and access to the greatest physicians and therapy." She previously had both skin and breast cancer diagnoses and attributed the latter to her earlier love of sunbathing. The celebrity has been upfront about her chronic health issues. Fonda had a malignant tumor on her lower lip removed in 2018 and it was most likely basal-cell carcinoma (the most common form of skin cancer). “I just want to explain the bandage,” the 80-year-old acting legend told the AOL BUILD Series audience. “I just had a cancer taken from my lip. I thought it was going to heal in time before I came before you, but it's fine. I just want to explain it. I don't normally go around like this. The world is falling apart. What's a lip?”

Fonda has been outspoken about the physical effects of growing older, revealing that osteoporosis has made her "whole body hurt" and made her bones more brittle and prone to breaking. “The fact that I hurt a lot – my body hurts – is a surprise to me, and it’s not because of all that working out,” she said. “It’s genetic. My father Henry had it, my brother Peter had it. Your cartilage disappears and then it’s bone on bone, and then ‘ow’. But we live in a time where you can just get a new one.”
