James Franco will portray the role of the late Cuban leader in a movie called 'Alina of Cuba'.
Miguel Bardem's directorial will also see Ma Maestro playing the role of Natalia 'Naty' Revuelta- the Cuban-born socialite with whom he had a passionate love affair. It is being reported that the newly-announced project is based around Castro’s illegitimate daughter Alina Fernandez played by Ana Villafane. The casting of the movie has sparked an outrage with public figures like John Leguizamo, Ana Navarro, and Jeff Torres slamming the actor saying “he ain’t Latino.”

James Franco might be facing online backlash but a social media post from a Twitter user pointed out an eerie similarity between Franco and Castro. The post claimed that the 44-year-old actor’s grandfather was born in Madeira whereas, Fidel Castro’s mother came from the Canary Islands making them only 100 miles apart.
“Interesting note of tidbit, James Franco’s Grandpa was born in Madeira while Fidel Castro’s mother came from the Canary Islands”, said an individual. The post continued, “Both of their genetic history are literally less than 100 miles apart. In other words, this argument is stupid.”
Speaking of James Franco, the ‘127 Hours’ star is of Jewish, Portuguese, and Swedish ancestry and was born in Palo Alto, California. Born in 1978, the actor is the son of Douglas Eugene Franco and Betsy Franco. He is the eldest out of the three kids. His siblings namely Tom and Dave Franco, are artists and actors respectively. According to the website Ethnic Celebs, James Franco’s paternal grandfather was born in Illinois and was the child of Portuguese emigrants hailing from the Madeira islands. Franco’s grandmother hailed from Illinois and had Swedish descent.

Fidel Castro was the son Ángel María Bautista Castro y Argiz and Lina Ruz González. His father was born in Lancara, Lugo Province, Spain whereas, his mother hailed from Catalina, Pinar del Rio, Cuba, as published by Ethnic Celebs.
The paternal grandfather of Castro was named Manuel de Castro y Núñez Láncara, Lugo, Galicia. Whereas, Castro’s paternal grandmother, Antonia Argiz y Fernández was Spanish, from Láncara, Lugo, Galicia. Pedro José was the son of Pedro Argiz de Riva and Manuela Gallego Ares.
