Jake Paul opens up about ‘Gotcha Hat’ incident: ‘I was in demon mode’
CLEVELAND, OHIO: Jake Paul is renowned for accomplishing absurd things to heighten the intrigue of each battle. After losing to 'TNT', he will now raise his gloves against former UFC fighter Nate Diaz. Even though he hasn't done anything exceptional yet, Paul can turn the tables even the day before the fight.
At the pre-fight press conference for Floyd Mayweather's exhibition fight, one such occurrence took place. Yes, it was the iconic 'Gotcha Hat' incident, in which Paul attacked Mayweather's team while stealing his hat. It attracted a lot of attention after it acquired popularity and became viral. As a result, a fight broke out between 'Pretty Boy' and Paul.
‘I was in demon mode’
On his 'BS with Jake Paul' podcast Paul following in the footsteps of his older brother, Logan Paul, discussed the circumstances that led up to him snatching Mayweather's hat on the most recent episode with Bobby Shmurda as the guest.
“I was in demon mode. I’m at this Press Conference and Floyd starts talking s**t.” He called himself a mere “observer” but Mayweather provoked him as Paul explained, “Floyd’s like, ‘B*ch one, b*ch two,’” Paul said.
When one of the hosts of the podcast asked Paul, “So it wasn’t premeditated, you didn’t think about it before you got to the venue?” he strongly disputed it before going on to explain how things transpired.
He intended to ruin his appearance even more since Mayweather had gotten on his nerves so much that he had undone his shoelaces. He then had the notion to steal the hat, which he accomplished before attempting to flee. But who could have predicted that same episode would resurface in a different way two years later?
Mayweather confronts Paul
Because of the hat incident, which sparked their feud, Mayweather saw an opportunity to exact revenge on the younger Paul sibling. So, surrounded by around 20 players, he evaluated Paul after the Miami Heat game and his practice fight with Aaron Chalmers. The footage of the incident also went viral.
The cameraman could be heard asking, "Are we going to bust him up, guys?" as a group of men with Mayweather in the middle approach Paul in the video. Paul then sprinted away from the conflict and attempted to avoid it. Mostly because he had an army in front of him but was only escorted by one security guy.
Paul later recorded a video and challenged Mayweather to a fight after his strategic withdrawal. Even though it wasn't taken any further than this, it garnered a lot of attention online, and many fans lambasted 'TBE' for acting in such a way.
