‘Zootopia 3’ in works at Disney with fan-favorites reprising their roles
Our favorite duo is coming back! Disney’s D23 fan event brought plenty of big announcements about upcoming movies and TV shows. Among them was the confirmation that ‘Zootopia 3’ is in the works. Disney Animation head Jared Bush was present at the event alongside Ginnifer Goodwin and Ke Huy Quan. Goodwin excitedly revealed, “The bunny and the snake will be back!” She was referring to Judy Hopps, voiced by Goodwin herself, and Gary De’Snake (Quan), who was introduced in the sequel. Director Bush then teased that the third film will feature the return of some fan-favorite characters, but he didn’t name any of them. Still, it’s not hard to predict that our favorite sly fox will be back, considering he is one of the franchise’s main characters.
As for the plot, fans only got a small clue that the threequel will follow a bird-centered storyline. Perhaps this time, Judy and Nick will be on the hunt for a bird criminal? That would make sense, as the previous two films in the franchise follow the duo as they solve cases across the animal metropolis of Zootopia. Honestly, it was a no-brainer for Disney to greenlight the third chapter. Last year, ‘Zootopia 2’ earned $1.8 billion worldwide and became the company’s highest-grossing movie of all time. The first film, released in 2016, also crossed the $1 billion mark. For the unversed, ‘Zootopia’ is a movie franchise about an optimistic rabbit police officer Judy Hopps and a cunning con artist fox Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman).
The two started out as enemies before becoming reluctant allies to solve a mystery. But, they are now best friends and police partners. Although the creators have never confirmed a romance between them, fans love to read between the lines and believe they are, or could become, romantically involved. Maybe ‘Zootopia 3’ will finally make their relationship clear, or perhaps it will once again leave things open-ended. Meanwhile, no production details or release window have been revealed yet. Since the project is still in its early stages, that’s understandable. More details about the cast, plot, and first look can be expected in the coming months.
