Sunday football usually means touchdowns and replay reviews. This time, though, it also came with a surprise trip to ancient Greece, courtesy of Christopher Nolan and a very unexpected face. During Fox’s broadcast of the NFL AFC Championship matchup between the New England Patriots and the Denver Broncos, viewers caught their first real glimpse of Travis Scott in Nolan’s upcoming epic ‘The Odyssey’. The TV spot was brief but loud in its own way, and it didn’t take long for social media to light up once fans realized what they had just seen.

In the teaser, Scott is shown standing atop a table, commanding the attention of a room full of soldiers. His presence is impossible to miss. The scene places him among warriors that include Tom Holland’s Telemachus and Jon Bernthal’s Menelaus. Scott appears fully at ease as he demands silence and focus from the group. Clips of the moment spread fast. Really fast. Within minutes of the spot airing, fans were reposting, pausing, zooming in, and debating exactly how big Scott’s role might be. Many were surprised. Universal, which is backing the film, declined Variety’s request for comment about Scott’s appearance.

They choose to let the footage speak for itself. And it did. Loudly. Notably, this isn’t the first time Nolan and Scott have crossed creative paths. Back in 2020, Scott recorded the song ‘The Plan’ for Nolan’s sci-fi thriller ‘Tenet’. That track played an important role in the film’s promotional rollout. Nolan later spoke about that collaboration with clear admiration. “His voice became the final piece of a yearlong puzzle,” the director told GQ. “His insights into the musical and narrative mechanism [composer] Ludwig Göransson and I were building were immediate, insightful and profound.”

Now, instead of contributing through music, Scott is stepping directly into Nolan’s visual world. Meanwhile, ‘The Odyssey’ itself is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about films on the calendar, even with much of it still being kept hush-hush. Nolan is adapting Homer’s epic poem. The story has been retold countless times over the centuries, but rarely with the kind of resources and star power this version brings. Matt Damon stars as Odysseus, the legendary Greek hero whose long journey home is filled with gods, monsters, and hard-earned lessons.

Damon’s casting alone indicated that Nolan was going big. Then the rest of the cast list started to surface, and expectations shot even higher. Alongside Damon, the film features Holland, Bernthal, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, and Elliot Page. And now, the inclusion of Travis Scott has been confirmed. While details about his character haven’t been shared, the teaser positions him as someone with authority. Furthermore, the film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 17.
