LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ alum Teddi Mellencamp got candid last year about her skin cancer diagnosis last year on an Instagram post. The 41-year-old shared the news that she had melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer. Melanoma is much less common than other types of skin cancers but it’s also more dangerous because it’s more likely to spread to other parts of the body if it’s not caught and treated early. Just 1% of skin cancers are melanoma, but melanoma causes the majority of skin cancer deaths, as per the American Cancer Society.

A month ago, she had shared a ‘happy’ surgery update, confirming she was cancer-free after having 12 melanomas removed just 'in time,' and her fans were relieved. But here’s a concerning update on her melanoma, as she wrote on her Instagram, “First off, I am forever appreciative of the outpouring of love and support. Now an update: I went in for my 4-6 week checkup and there were three new spots my doctors felt needed to be biopsied.”

The 'RHOBH' alum continued, “I’m getting a lot of questions about the spots being white. I have had both white and brown melanomas; this is why I continue to share to get checked no matter what.” She added, “Also, recently I felt a bump on my neck. My anxiety, of course, took over. I touched it at least 303 times. However, on the day of the appointment, I assumed it was nothing. And then the ultrasound came back irregular. I had the option of a needle biopsy or getting it cut out completely; the doctor recommended the biopsy to start, however there’s a small chance it’ll come back inconclusive and we will then have to remove it.”

Teddi shared candidly reminding herself and the internet about the things they ‘could’ control and things they could not, writing, “As someone who is a controlled person, I’m dealing as best I can with something out of my control. Things I can control: staying on top of my appointments, self-checks, and asking my doctors questions.” She ended the post by urging her users and herself to stay positive, “I’m trying my best to stay positive and will fill you in when I get the results. If this saves even one person from going through what I’m going through, it’s worth it 💕 #melanomaawareness”

An Instagram user commented, “I had melanoma removed from my leg a year ago. I kept canceling my 3rd follow up. But I just went this past week and it was clear, I would have kept pushing off if it wasn’t for your story. Sending lots of prayers.” Another wrote, “Thank you for sharing as the awareness and education is important and thank you for keeping it real 💯 stay resilient and remember to lean on others to help you do you and focus on healing and recovery, important lesson as a mamma!” Yet another added, “I appreciate your openness and vulnerability. I recently went in and had a spot of cancer removed from my leg. It was caught very early and I’m grateful. But it looked like absolutely nothing significant. It was not brown or irregular in shape. I honestly thought it was a bug bite that was slow to heal. Keep spreading the word because you are helping others! Sending you all the good vibes and prayers!”
