Netizens supported a woman who refused to split a bill evenly, as she was facing a financial crunch at that time. The netizens understood her feelings and slammed her colleagues, who ignored her after what she did. The post received a lot of attention from users, as the post garnered about 766 comments.

The user took to Reddit and posted about this on the group named 'Am I The A**hole.' The user wondered and wrote, "AITA for refusing to split a bill evenly?" The user then continued explaining the situation to the other users, as she wrote, "So I (F26) went out for dinner with the other ladies in my office."

"Money is a bit tight at the moment"

The user continued, "Money is a bit tight at the moment so whilst everyone else ordered 3 courses and was drinking alcohol, I only ordered a main meal and was drinking water all evening. Come time to pay the bill, the lady who'd organised the evening told the waitress we'd be splitting the bill 6 ways evenly."

'I quietly tried to explain I'd only budgeted for what I'd eaten'

The user then explained the math she did and mentioned that she was expected to pay £60 ($65) instead of £16 ($17). She wrote, "this would've meant I'd have had to pay £60 when the total amount for what I'd consumed was £16. When she sent the email about the night she never mentioned splitting the bill that way. I quietly tried to explain I'd only budgeted for what I'd eaten and I assumed we'd all be paying for ourselves, it would put me in a difficult position for the rest of the month if I paid out £60."

The user then explained what happened after splitting the bill, "They decided to work out the bill separately, and we all paid for what we'd consumed, but now the ladies in the office are ignoring me and planning another night out without me. I couldn't really afford to go out anyway, but I went because I'm quite new to this job and I didn't want to be left out. Did I do it wrong? Should I have just paid the £60?"

'They weren't ignorant, they were rude'

As soon as the post went online, the comment section was bombarded with other user's comments. One of the users took to comment section and wrote, "NTA, they're being rude. Splitting the bill evenly is only ok if everyone agrees ahead of time." The user added, "Sure, they don't have to invite you again, but why would anyone want to hang out with a bunch of rude snobs who would hold money over someone like that?:."

The second user then explained their personal experiences and wrote, "When I was really tight on money, I would just pay for what I ordered, and then the rest of the group would spill the rest, as they had spent similar amounts. They never expected me to pay for their alcohol and food, especially when it was obvious I was ordering much less. OP is NTA, but their colleagues definitely are AHs"

The last user brutally slammed the woman's colleagues and wrote, "They weren't ignorant, they were rude. Ordering many items and splitting the bill evenly is rude if not pre-discussed with everyone BEFOREHAND, sorry mate. They took advantage of you. They knew better."
