Lisa Marie Presley's life riddled with tragedy

This is not the first tragic turn Lisa's life has taken. The singer led a troubled life, with addiction issues, four divorces, and the death of her son, Benjamin. Lisa's father, Elvis, died in 1977 aged 42 when she was just nine years old. Priscilla and Elvis were already divorced by then.

Over the decades, Lisa had been married four times. She had children Riley and Benjamin with her first husband Danny Keough. The two split in 1994. Lisa was then married to Michael Jackson and Nicholas Cage for two years each and eventually settled down with Michael Lockwood in 2006. Lisa and Lockwood divorced in 2021, and their separation came with a disturbing custody battle over the twin girls they share, Finley and Vivienne.

Lisa's son's death, which took place in 2020, hit her hard. Benjamin, then 27, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a party for his girlfriend’s birthday at his mother’s home in Calabasas. The US Sun obtained an autopsy report that confirmed the cause of death was a shotgun wound, The manner of death was ruled as suicide. At the time of his death, Benjamin reportedly tested positive for alcohol and cocaine.

Lisa also fell into substance abuse and checked herself into rehab for addiction to prescription pills back in 2016. However, the public knew about the drug problems even before this. In 2003, she revealed that she used cocaine, sedatives, and cannabis, and also drank at the same time. She developed opioid addiction in 2008 after her doctor prescribed them following the birth of Vivienne and Finley. "It only took a short-term prescription of opioids in the hospital for me to feel the need to keep taking them," she revealed in the foreword for Harry Nelson's 2019 book 'The United States of Opioids: A Prescription for Liberating a Nation in Pain'.

'May she forever shine'

Social media users mourned her death, with one user saying, "God, I knew she didn’t look or sound well at the Golden Globes, but I wasn’t expecting this! Bittersweet for sure. She’s reunited with her son, and dad, but leaves behind young children. So very sad. Hate when history repeats itself." "OMG. RIP Beautiful you are with your Daddy now," another said. One user said, "Will this family ever not be full of tragedy? This is just awful. Rest in Peace."

"Wow this is so sad. Just at the Golden Globes. May she forever shine," one user wrote, while another said, "So sad. I rooted for her to pull through. Prayers and condolences to her family, friends and loved ones." "Damn, I was really hoping for the best. God bless and help her family and friends during this. Wow, I’m a little floored. Prayers," one user said.
