Rapper Kanye West broke the Internet on the Fourth of July when he tweeted to his 29.6 million followers that he would run for president in the 2020 elections. West said he would contest as an independent candidate from a Republican-leaning and pro-Black religious platform. In a four-hour interview with Forbes magazine, excerpted on Wednesday, July 8, West rambled on about his political views, saying he no longer supported President Donald Trump and would start his own campaign for president.

"God just gave me the clarity and said it's time," he added. In his Twitter handle, West wrote "We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States", accompanied by a catchphrase to go with his presidential run: #2020Vision.

In conversation with Forbes, Kanye revealed that his campaign slogan would be "Kanye West YES", and he would run under the banner of the "Birthday Party". West added that he would have run for the Republicans if it weren't for Trump. "Trump is the closest president we've had in years to allowing God to still be part of the conversation," West said but added that the country has become a "big mess" now. "I don't like that I caught wind that he hid in the bunker," West added.

In addition, one of West's policy goals would be to bring an end to police brutality, he told Forbes. The rapper also disclosed that he assumes the anti-abortion stance and he is "extremely cautious" about vaccines. West also said he is against the death penalty and wants public schools to reintroduce prayer. The rapper even acknowledged that he is a political novice.

West has a strong supportive backbone in wife Kim Kardashian-West, and entrepreneur Elon Musk. He said they have been encouraging him to run for president for years. Forbes also detailed that Michelle Tidball, a preacher from Wyoming, would be his running mate. West aims to run the White House focusing on innovation and likened it to the fictional African kingdom of Wakanda from the Marvel Comics Universe's 'Black Panther'.

However, a spokesperson for the Federal Election Commission, confirmed last week that at press time, it didn't seem like West had filed the necessary paperwork to make his bid official. He will need to work with speed to organize his campaign team and get his name on the ballots in all 50 states, to become a credible third-party run.

Meanwhile, social media users have been conjuring up suitable slogans to go with West's campaign, some sporting hilarious references to things he has said in the past. "#KanyesPoliticalSlogan imma let you finish," a user tweeted, alluding to West's infamous interruption of singer Taylor Swifts acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.

"#KanyesPoliticalSlogan It’s the Don of a new Ye," added another, a play of words on the phrase 'Dawn of a new era'. "I release music, not tax returns #KanyesPoliticalSlogan," said a third user, while another commented, "#KanyesPoliticalSlogan You can't fix stupid, but you can add to it." One user concurred, "Vote For A Young Black Trump #KanyesPoliticalSlogan", while another recommended "#KanyesPoliticalSlogan 'I'll check Congress like I checked Nike'." "I’m just here for the attention #KanyesPoliticalSlogan," a user tweeted. "YE We Can #KanyesPoliticalSlogan," added another. "Love Me Like I Love Me #KanyesPoliticalSlogan," one user tweeted. Another said: "Take it Yeezy #KanyesPoliticalSlogan."
