'Keeps the flavor': Internet divided as Pizza Hut worker exposes store for not washing dirty pans in video

A TikTok user exposed the Pizza Hut he worked at by posting a video where the pans are wiped with a rag but not washed ever

A lot of seemingly mundane yet strange things end up becoming great points of discussion on social media and another such topic made it to the minds of TikTokers recently. This was a video exposing the Pizza Hut that the uploader worked at, where he claims that they never clean the pans that they make the pan pizzas in!

The video, posted by @joshuadownthestreet, was an attempt at exposing the unhygienic practices at Pizza Hut where he works at. The video had clips of him wiping down the dirty pans, which came with text on it that said, “Pizza Hut doesn’t wash their Thin Pizza pans. They are wiped down with a used rag instead. If wet, they don’t dry.”

The video was posted with the caption, “you didn’t hear it from me folks. #fyp #pizza #pizzahut." The video was posted more than a week ago on October 17 quickly went viral and has had more than a million views. The video’s wide reach also prompted a lot of comments, most of which were discussions about Pizza Hut branches that they know of and the stance on cleaning there, according to the Daily Dot.

Some users were quick to defend their Pizza Hut branches, with one commenter saying, “I work at a Pizza Hut for 16 years and we always wash ours,” and another saying, “Not my pizza hut, my pizza hut be cleaning even the ceiling tiles.” Another user said, “I run a pizza hut for 7 years and I always washed mine in the dishwasher.”

However, some defended the practice of just wiping the pans, with them all agreeing on the opinion that it wasn’t a big deal. One viewer said, “No pizza place [washes their pans] and it doesn’t matter.” Another said, “I can almost guarantee you it’s like this everywhere. I used to work at a bakery saw this too.” Some also added to these by saying that unwashed pans kept the flavor in the pizza intact. “I’ve worked at 3 separate pizza places and this is just how it works,” one viewer claimed. “It seasons the pans so they’re always nonstick and if u wash it can ruin it.” "Adds flavor and the degree they cook pizza kills everything anyway,” another added.

This also prompted reactions from Twitter about the cleanliness of Pizza Hut, with one Twitter user saying, “Everything at pizzahut is frozen. Including the dough. Also, the pan pizza dishes are always dirty. Don't order pan pizza from PH.” Another Twitter post stated, “Pizza hut did me dirty and was put of mushrooms last time i went. Soooo my own pan pizza, sour dough crust w a whole f*****g thing of mushrooms and two bags of cheese, dont worry ill be back to let you know how it is." Another user claims that his Pizza Hut was as reportedly shady as it got, with drugs and dirty pans abound. The user tweeted, “The Pizza Hut I worked out was ghetto af found drug on pizzas boxes and the pan trays were always dirty we had 5 different managers in like 6-8 months and that ain’t all I could write a whole book about that place crazy."
