How did Niece Waidhofer die? Instagram influencer, 31, found dead in her Houston home

'She was very open with her followers about her struggles, even wanting to help followers who also suffered,' model’s family said

Social media influencer Niece Waidhofer, who had a following of more than four million on Instagram, has died. The model and influencer was just 31, and she killed herself by suicide after "a long battle with mental health issues", her family confirmed to TMZ. The exact date of her death is not known yet, but reports said her body was found at her Houston house last month after a family member called local authorities to do a welfare check.

The model’s family told TMZ, “Sadly, Niece took her own life after a long battle with mental health issues. She was very open with her followers about her struggles, even wanting to help followers who also suffered.”

They added: “Niece was more than her struggles. She was beautiful and kind, sensitive and funny, creative and talented, generous and compassionate, thoughtful and challenging. While it is so very painful to say goodbye, we take comfort knowing she is reunited with her father, her three grandparents, her Uncle Rusty, and her beloved Puff; and that she is now free to be herself and, finally, at peace.”

It has also been reported that in memory of Waidhofer, a non-profit organization ‘Peace from Niece’ will be launched to create mental health awareness and provide financial help for research related to mental illness. Her relatives said that the influencer was proud of herself for clicking and captioning her social media posts on her own. However, recently she left her fans and followers worried after removing all her photos and videos from Instagram, except three posts.

The most recent post on the platform is from March, which is a selfie. The caption of it read: “Mildly interesting: blonde is actually my natural color, I have been living a lie all these years. Once you go black, you have to paint your blonde roots with mascara every time they grow out until you go back.”

Waidhofer’s sudden death has broken several people's hearts as some of them took to Twitter to remember her. A user tweeted: “Ummm !! That is extremely SAD but NOT unexpected. Once you have ATTEMPTED suicide you are EXPECTED to keep trying until you SUCCEED. I know... Rest in SOLICE😭😭😭.” The second user said, “The strong ones who offer to help and advise also need help and advice. Life is happening to everyone. Rest In Peace 😪😪.” “Honestly, people are going through a lot.....my condolences sir....🌹,” the third user wrote. “That is so so sad. My condolences go out to her family,” a person shared. Another person stated, “So so sad!! Praying for her loved ones and may she Rest Peacefully💔🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽.” 

A tweet read, “Very heartbreaking 😔 prayers for her and her family 🙏.” “Prayers.Sent.😇💗2!😇family.😇&friends.😇,” another tweet stated. “This is happening way too often - Influencer and Model Niece Waidhofer Dead by Suicide at 31 - Something has to change with our mental health system. https://tmz.com/2022/06/23/niece-waidhofer-model-influencer-dead-dies-suicide-31/?adid=share-tw via @TMZ,” a tweet added.
