Spoilers for 'In the Dark' Season 2 Episode 8 'Codependence Day'

Over the course of 'In the Dark', Dean Riley (Rich Sommer) went from one of the most-liked characters to one that is hated most on the show. While he started out as Murphy Mason's (Perry Mattfeld) friend after he meets her when he brings his daughter, Chloe (Calle Walton), to Guiding Hope. Then, it was revealed that Dean, though a cop, was also working for Chicago crime lord Nia Bailey (Nicki Micheaux) and when another of her people, teenager Tyson uncovered his secret, Dean killed the boy. Unfortunately for Dean, Tyson was Murphy's best friend.

In the second season, Dean's main job has been to capture Nia and he arrests Murphy's love interest, Max Parrish (Casey Deidrick). Dean is close to breakthrough many times during the season but is often thwarted, usually through lucky escapes. However, in this week's episode, mostly due to the work of his partner, Gene Clemens (Matt Murray), whom he treats badly, Dean is able to nearly catch Murphy and Max exchanging drugs when she meets him in prison.

Again, due to a lucky escape, the drugs are not in Murphy's cane because it got exchanged with Chloe's cane when the latter went to visit Murphy at Guiding Hope to question her about calling Dean a murderer.

But if we thought that Murphy is safe now, we might be wrong. Later, when they are at home, Dean understands Chloe has Murphy's cane, and sure enough, the drugs are in there. We just hope Dean also won't discover Murphy's message on Chloe's phone.

However, fans hope that Dean, who himself had a lucky escape, will eventually get what's coming from him. One fan tweeted, "Why isn't Dean dead yet? @CWInTheDark
Nia is more than enough trouble. She's a good bad person. All dean does is make me wanna throw something at my tv or force myself to change the channel. We don't want a white asshole getting away with murder and manipulation, etc. #inthedark."

Another wrote, "Dean's gonna find the drugs sadly. But seriously, if this season doesn't end with him going down... I'm suing. #inthedark," while a fan wrote, "Murphy should have reported Dean a long time ago because he's behaving like a scorned lover with a vendetta. #InTheDark."

One viewer tweeted, "That is what Dean's dumb ass gets. I'm so sick of him. That was a close call. #InTheDark," while another opined, "'Murphy Mason is done.' ASSHOLE, WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO BE?! The unmitigated gall of Dean. #InTheDark."

Some viewers think Murphy should resort to other means to get back at Dean. One fan tweeted, "Murphy could always blackmail Dean into leaving her alone by saying she'd tell Chloe about him killing Tyson if he keeps harassing her #InTheDark," while another wrote, "Murphy needs to let Nia know Dean has the drugs... let Nia take care of him, thinking he tried to steal them or something. Play your cards right, Murphy. Work it into your favor. #inthedark."

'In the Dark' airs on The CW on Thursday nights at 9/8c.
